Rosa Spier Huis
The Rosa Spier Huis is a retirement home founded in 1963 in Laren, North Holland, Laren, Netherlands, where many notable Dutch artists lived out their final years. The original idea, by harpist Rosa Spier, was to create a community where artists could spend their last years while continuing to contribute artistically. The home has 73 apartments, some with studios. There are communal spaces as well, including a library and a theater. Mien Ruys designed the garden. In 2010, the home's director announced that rather than build new accommodations on the same location (on the Esseboom), the home would move to the Hector Treublaan, still within the town of Laren. Laren () is a town and municipality in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. Located in the Gooi region, it is the oldest town in the area. Together with its neighbor Blaricum, Laren is one of the most affluent towns in the Netherlands. Mien Ruys
Wilhelmina Jacoba Moussault-Ruys (14 February 1904 – 9 January 1999), was a Dutch landscape and garden architect. Her gardening legacy is maintained in the Dutch town of Dedemsvaart, which is home to the ''Tuinen Mien Ruys''. With people such as Piet Oudolf, she is considered a leader in the "New Perennial Movement." Career Mien Ruys briefly studied garden architecture in Berlin in the 1920s, and spent time in England as well (Tunbridge Wells); her father was a friend of Gertrude Jekyll, from whom Ruys is supposed to have learned some things about colour. During World War II she studied engineering in Delft, but then returned home to work and experiment at her father's company. Ruys's father, Bonne Ruys, founded the Moerheim Nursery in 1888 specializing in perennials in the bogs near Dedemsvaart, near Zwolle, in the east of the Netherlands. ''De Gooi- en Eemlander'' is a regional Dutch daily newspaper distributed in the Gooi region and some nearby towns and villages in Utrecht. History 19th century: Foundation and first decades under Geradts The newspaper started as the ''Gooisch Nieuwsblad'' in 1871 by Johan Geradts. It was initially printed on a small hand press in an attic in Hilversum. In 1900 the already larger press of the newspaper burned down and the printing company of the brothers Klene started to print the newspaper. Marten Toonder
Marten Toonder (2 May 1912 – 27 July 2005) was a Dutch comic strip creator, born in Rotterdam. He was probably the most successful comic artist in the Netherlands and had a great influence on the Dutch language by introducing new words and expressions. He is most famous for his series ''Tom Puss'' and ''Panda''. Tom Puss/Oliver B. Bumble series In 1931 after his final exams, Marten Toonder went to Buenos Aires with his father. Here he got acquainted with the work of the well-known Argentine artist and editor Dante Quinterno, who ran a studio producing comics. Quinterno's creations impressed him to such a degree that he decided to become an artist himself. His most famous comic series were the Tom Puss (''Tom Poes'' in Dutch) and Oliver B. Emmy Lopes Dias
Emmy Lopes Dias (4 August 1919, in Hilversum – 28 March 2005, in Laren) was a Dutch actress and activist who performed on stage, radio, and television. She was a well-known advocate for the right to die. Biography Lopes Dias was born to a city councilmember for the Social Democratic Workers' Party (later renamed PvdA). She began her acting career shortly after World War II. She graduated cum laude from the Amsterdamse Toneelschool in 1949 and joined the Comedia, the predecessor of the Nederlandse Comedie. She was praised for her speech and began working in radio, performing in hundreds of radio plays and other radio shows. On television, she played in '' De Kleine Waarheid'' (as Maartje), in '' Q & Q'', and in '' Swiebertje''. She continued her work on the stage until the 1970s.
