Rosa 'Oregold'
''Rosa'' 'Oregold', (aka TANolg), known in Germany as 'Anneliese Rothenberger', is a deep yellow hybrid tea rose cultivar, bred by Mathias Tantau, Jr. in Germany before 1971. The rose was named after the famous German opera singer, Anneliese Rothenberger (1924—2010). 'Oregold' is also known by the marketing names: 'Silhouette', 'Miss Harp, and 'Tantau'. The cultivar was named an All-America Rose Selections winner in 1975. Description 'Oregold' is a tall upright shrub, 5 to 7 ft (150–200 cm) in height with a 4 ft (120 cm) spread. Petals are typically 4-5 inches (10–12 cm), high-centered and full form with 16-25 petals. The flowers are very large at first with large buds and very long petals. Flowers are a golden yellow color, fading to buff. The color is best in cooler climates and seasons. The rose has a mild fruity fragrance. Hybrid Tea Rose
Hybrid tea is an informal horticultural classification for a group of garden roses. The first hybrid tea roses were created in France in the mid-1800s, by cross-breeding the large, floriferous Hybrid Perpetuals with the tall, elegant Tea roses. The Hybrid tea is the oldest class of Modern garden roses. Hybrid teas exhibit traits midway between their parents, being hardier than the often delicate Tea roses, and with a better ability for repeat-flowering than the more robust Hybrid Perpetuals. Hybrid tea flowers are well-formed with large, high-centred buds, supported by long, straight and upright stems. Each flower can grow to 8–12.5 cm wide. Anneliese Rothenberger
Anneliese Rothenberger (19 June 191924 May 2010) was a German operatic soprano who had an active international performance career which spanned from 1942 to 1983. She specialized in the lyric coloratura soprano repertoire, and was particularly admired for her interpretations of the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Richard Strauss. Life and career Rothenberger was born in Mannheim, Germany. She studied with Erika Müller, and took up her first engagement in Koblenz in 1942. In 1946, Günther Rennert offered her a job at the Hamburg Opera House, where she sang in Rennert's now famous production of Alban Berg's ''Lulu'' twenty years later, a role she would also perform at the Munich Opera Festival, under the direction of Christoph von Dohnányi. 1954 saw her make her debut at the Salzburg Festival, and she appeared in Rolf Liebermann's ''Schule der Frauen'', three years later. The All-America Rose Selections (AARS) is an award that was given annually, from 1940 to 2013, by the American rose industry to an outstanding new rose variety. The AARS selection was regarded as the most prestigious rose prize in the United States for 73 years. AARS was discontinued after 2013, and was replaced in 2016 by the new American Garden Rose Selections (AGRS) program. History In 1938, W.
