Rosa 'Love And Peace'
''Rosa'' 'Love & Peace', (aka BAIpeace), is a hybrid tea rose cultivar bred in the United States by Ping Lim and Jerry Twomey in 1991. The rose was named an All-America Rose Selections winner in 2002. Description 'Love & Peace' is a medium-tall upright shrub, 4 to 6 ft (121—182 cm) in height with a 2 to 3 ft (60—90 cm) spread. Blooms are large, 6 in (15 cm) in diameter, with a high-centered bloom form. Flowers are lemon yellow with dark pink edges, and are typically borne singly, and more rarely in small clusters. The rose has a medium, fruity fragrance and large, dark green foliage. 'Love & Peace' is an outstanding exhibition rose as well as a good garden rose. It blooms in flushes from spring through fall. The plants does well in USDA zone 7 and warmer. The Peace rose, formally ''Rosa'' 'Madame A. Meilland', is a well-known and successful garden rose. By 1992, over one hundred million plants of this hybrid tea had been sold. The cultivar has large flowers of a light yellow to cream color, slightly flushed at the petal edges with crimson-pink. It is hardy and vigorous and relatively resistant to disease, making it popular in gardens as well as in the floral trade. It was developed by French horticulturist Francis Meilland, in the years 1935 to 1939. When Meilland foresaw the German invasion of France, he sent cuttings to friends in Italy, Turkey, Germany, and the United States to protect the new rose. It is said that it was sent to the US on the last plane available before the German invasion, where it was safely propagated by the Conard Pyle Co. during the war. Meilland International SA is a family-owned rose growing business founded circa 1850. The business operates today out of the Domaine de Saint André in Le Cannet-des-Maures, Le Luc en Provence, Var, France with branches all over the world.
