Rori Donaghy
Rori Donaghy is a Public Policy Manager at Meta. He was previously a news editor with the Middle East Eye and was the Director of the Emirates Centre for Human Rights between March 2012 and March 2014, a UK human rights organisation centred on the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In his capacity as ECHR Director, Donaghy was interviewed by major media in the UK including the BBC World Service and BBC Radio 5 and his writing appeared in The Guardian and The Huffington Post. In April 2012, Donaghy visited the UAE where he interviewed Emiratis claiming to be victims of human rights abuses. From 2012, Donaghy was a "key target" of Project Raven; a UAE clandestine surveillance and hacking operation, targeting other governments, militants and human rights activists critical of the UAE monarchy. Middle East Eye (MEE) is a London-based news website covering events in the Middle East and North Africa. MEE describes itself as an "independently funded online news organization that was founded in April 2014." MEE seeks to be the primary portal of Middle East news, and describes its target audience as "all those communities of readers living in and around the region that care deeply for its fate". Organisation MEE is edited by David Hearst, a former foreign leader writer for the British daily, ''The Guardian''. Emirates Centre For Human Rights
The Emirates Centre for Human Rights (ECHR) is a British-based non-governmental organisation that promotes the defence of human rights in the United Arab Emirates. The ECHR also engages in advocacy to “build strong relationships with media, parliaments and other relevant organisations outside the UAE” and has organised three meetings in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom in July 2012, March and July 2013. The ECHR's website was originally registered to Malath Skahir, a former director of the Cordoba Foundation and the wife of Anas Altikriti, the current Cordoba Foundation chief executive and the key political lobbyist for the Muslim Brotherhood in Britain. Former ECHR Director Rori Donaghy says that Altikriti helped to set up the ECHR but now has nothing to do with it. As of 2015, Anas Mekdad is the director. Ahmed Mansoor
Ahmed Mansoor Al Shehhi is an Emirati blogger, human rights and reform activist arrested in 2011 for defamation and insults to the heads of state and tried in the UAE Five trial. He was pardoned by UAE's president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Mansoor was arrested again in March 2017 on charges of using social media platforms to threaten public order and publish false and misleading information. He was found guilty and convicted for threatening state security and given a prison sentence of 10 years. Emergence Mansoor was running an opposition blog calling for reforms and human rights within the United Arab Emirates. Hacking Team
HackingTeam was a Milan-based information technology company that sold offensive intrusion and surveillance capabilities to governments, law enforcement agencies and corporations.
