Ronde Van Overijssel
Ronde van Overijssel ( en, Tour of Overijssel) is an elite men's road bicycle racing event held annually in Overijssel, Netherlands and sanctioned by the Royal Dutch Cycling Union. The event is UCI 1.2 rated, and is part of the UCI Europe Tour. In 2012, the race was expanded to two days for its 60th anniversary, but reverted to a single-day race in 2013. The race has been dominated by home riders; only six of the race's 65 editions have been won by non-Dutch riders: Tayeb Braikia in 1998, Brett Lancaster in 2002, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg in 2010, Dennis Coenen in 2014, Aidis Kruopis in 2016 and Nicolai Brøchner in 2017. Road bicycle racing is the cycle sport discipline of road cycling, held primarily on Road surface, paved roads. Reinardt Janse van Rensburg (born 3 February 1989) is a South African professional road bicycle racer, who rides for the Denver Disruptors. He previously rode for Dutch UCI ProTeam . He is not related to fellow professional cyclist and former teammate Jacques Janse van Rensburg. Career Born in Virginia, Free State, Janse van Rensburg competed with from 2010 to 2012. 2001 United Kingdom Foot-and-mouth Outbreak
The outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the United Kingdom in 2001 caused a crisis in British agriculture and tourism. This epizootic saw 2,000 cases of the disease in farms across most of the British countryside. Over 6 million cows and sheep were killed in an eventually successful attempt to halt the disease. Cumbria was the worst affected area of the country, with 893 cases. With the intention of controlling the spread of the disease, public rights of way across land were closed by order. This damaged the popularity of the Lake District as a tourist destination and led to the cancellation of that year's Cheltenham Festival, as well as the British Rally Championship for the 2001 season and delaying that year's general election by a month.
