Ronald Manning Fielding
Ronald Manning Fielding (October 7, 1896 – March 1, 1972) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral districts of Halifax West and Halifax Northwest in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1941 to 1960. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. Fielding was born in 1896 at Rockingham, Nova Scotia. He was educated at Dalhousie University, and was a lawyer by career. He was a municipal solicitor from 1931–1948, and a county prosecutor from 1933–1946. He married Marion Leck in 1945. Fielding entered provincial politics in the 1941 election, winning the Halifax West riding. He was re-elected in the 1945 and 1949 elections. In December 1949, Fielding was appointed to the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Municipal Affairs. Fielding was re-elected in the 1953 election. Rockingham, Nova Scotia
Rockingham is a community located within the urban area of the Municipality of Halifax, in Nova Scotia, Canada. History The first Europeans to settle in what was to become Rockingham were foreign Protestant farmers and innkeepers, starting in 1784. While the inns were too close to the city to benefit from stage coach traffic, they were conveniently located for drovers bringing their livestock to the Halifax market. Drovers lodged at the inns and kept their animals in the pastures while they arranged for their sale and slaughter. In the 1840s, William Evens and William Davey bought properties on the western shore of the basin. Evens, a butcher, built a slaughterhouse, while Davey established a large inn called the Four Mile House. When the Nova Scotia Railway was being built the two men persuaded the railway board to locate the first stop at Four Mile House. Executive Council Of Nova Scotia
The Executive Council of Nova Scotia (informally and more commonly, the Cabinet of Nova Scotia) is the cabinet of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Almost always made up of members of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, the Cabinet is similar in structure and role to the Canadian Cabinet while being smaller in size with different portfolios. The Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, as representative of the King in Right of Nova Scotia, heads the council, and is referred to as the Governor-in-Council. Other members of the Cabinet, who advise, or minister, the viceroy, are selected by the Premier of Nova Scotia and appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor. Most cabinet ministers are the head of a ministry, but this is not always the case. Nova Scotia Supreme Court
The Nova Scotia Supreme Court is a superior court in the province of Nova Scotia. The Supreme Court consists of 25 judicial seats including the position of Chief Justice and Associate Chief Justice. At any given time there may be one or more additional justices who sit as supernumerary justices. The justices sit in 18 different locations around the province. Jurisdiction As with all superior courts across the country, the court is said to have inherent jurisdiction. It hears civil and criminal trials. 1956 Nova Scotia General Election
The 1956 Nova Scotia general election was held on 30 October 1956 to elect members of the 46th House of Assembly of the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada. It was won by the Progressive Conservatives led by Robert Stanfield. This was the first election the Liberals had fought after the death of their longtime charismatic leader, Angus L. Macdonald. Public Health Minister Harold Connolly became interim leader and premier following Macdonald's death in 1954, but was defeated at a leadership convention by Education Minister Henry Hicks. The convention exposed a sharp religious divide in the Liberal Party; Hicks was a Protestant and Connolly was a Catholic. The Nova Scotia House of Assembly (french: Assemblée législative de la Nouvelle-Écosse; gd, Taigh Seanaidh Alba Nuadh), or Legislative Assembly, is the deliberative assembly of the General Assembly of Nova Scotia of the province of Nova Scotia, Canada.
