The Diocese of Suwon ( Lat.: ''Dioecesis Suvonensis'') is a particular church of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church. The seat of the Bishop of Suwon is at Jeongjadong Cathedral in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Pope Paul VI created the episcopal see on October 7, 1963. The territory had previously been part of the Archdiocese of Seoul, to which Suwon is suffragan. Gyeonggi-do (, ) is the most populous province in South Korea. Its name, ''Gyeonggi'', means "京 (the capital) and 畿 (the surrounding area)". Suwon
Suwon (, ) is the capital and largest city of Gyeonggi-do, South Korea's most populous province which surrounds Seoul, the national capital. Suwon lies about south of Seoul. It is traditionally known as "The City of Filial Piety". With a population close to 1.3 million, it is larger than Ulsan Metropolitan City, Ulsan, although it is not governed as a metropolitan city. Victorinus Youn Kong-hi (born November 8, 1924) was the third Archbishop, and current Archbishop Emeritus, of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kwangju. Born in Nampho, South Pyongan, North Korea, he was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Seoul on March 20, 1950. On October 7, 1963, he was appointed first Bishop of Suwon. A suffragan bishop is a type of bishop in some Christian denominations.
