The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cuauhtémoc-Madera ( la, Dioecesis Cuauhtemocensis–Materiensis) is a Latin suffragan diocese in the ecclesiastical province of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Chihuahua (northern Mexico). Its cathedral episcopal see is the Catedral de San Antonio, dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, in Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua State. It also has a Co-Cathedral, the former see of the territorial prelature of Madera : Cocatedral de San Pedro, dedicated to Saint Peter, in Madera, also in Chihuahua State. Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua
Cuauhtémoc (; Mennonite Low German: ''Cuauhtemoc-Staut'') is a city located in the west-central part of the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It serves as the seat of the municipality of Cuauhtémoc. The city lies 103 km (64 mi) west of the state capital of Chihuahua. As of 2015, the city of Cuauhtémoc had a population of 168,482. 3 languages are recognized as official in the city: Spanish, English, and Plautdietsch. The population in 1953 was just under 3,000, composed almost entirely of Mexicans with the exception of foreign-born people who have gone there as traders. Madera, also known as Ciudad Madera, is a town and seat of the municipality of Madera in the mountains of the northwestern Mexican state of Chihuahua. Juan Guillermo López Soto (February 10, 1947 – September 8, 2021) was a Mexican Roman Catholic prelate. Biography He served as the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cuauhtémoc-Madera, based in Chihuahua state, for 26 years from November 1995, until his death in September 2021. On August 30, 2021, the Diocese of Cuauhtémoc-Madera announced that López Soto had tested positive for COVID-19. He was admitted to Hospital Ángeles, a private hospital in the city of Chihuahua for treatment. López also suffered from several pre-existing cardiac conditions, including three heart surgeries in September 2018 for an obstructed artery, followed by a heart attack days after the operations.
