Latin liturgical rites, or Western liturgical rites, are Catholic rites of public worship employed by the Latin Church, the largest particular church ''sui iuris'' of the Catholic Church, that originated in Europe where the Latin language once dominated. Bareilly () is a city in Bareilly district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is among the largest metropolises in Western Uttar Pradesh and is the centre of the Bareilly division as well as the historical region of Rohilkhand. The city lies in the Indo-Gangetic Plains, about north west of the state capital, Lucknow, and east of the national capital, New Delhi. Early life D'Souza was born on 4 August 1964 in Basrikatte, Karnataka, India to Mr. CL D' Souza and Mrs. Lucy D' Souza. Education Ignatius has acquired a Bachelor of Theology degree, a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master of Arts (public administration) from Annamalai University. Anthony Fernandes (6 July 1936 – 3 February 2023) was an Indian prelate of the Catholic Church who served as the first bishop of the Diocese of Bareilly from 1989 until his retirement in 2014. Early life Bishop Anthony was born in Kalathur, Udupi, on 6 July 1936, to David and Bridgit Fernandes. Priesthood After his high school studies at Don Bosco School, Shriva, Anthony joined the diocese of Varanasi. He completed his initial formation at St Paul’s Minor Seminary, in Lucknow, which was followed by studies in philosophy and theology at St Joseph’s Regional Seminary in Allahabad.
