Roly Harper
Rowland Richard George Harper (April 1881 – August 1949) was an English professional footballer who made 34 appearances in the First Division of the Football League playing for Birmingham, Aston Villa and Notts County. Harper was born in Lichfield, Staffordshire. He began his football career with Walsall Wood before joining Small Heath of the Football League First Division in 1904. He made his debut for the club, by then renamed Birmingham, on 16 December 1905, scoring in a 5–0 win at home to Nottingham Forest, and played fairly regularly for the rest of that season, but lost his place to Charlie Tickle when the latter recovered from injury. Towards the end of the 1906–07 season he moved on to Burton United, but never played for the league team, and left for Aston Villa when Burton failed to gain re-election to the Football League. Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them. Non-league Football
Non-League football describes football leagues played outside the top leagues of a country. Usually, it describes leagues which are not fully professional. The term is primarily used for football in England, where it is specifically used to describe all football played at levels below those of the Premier League (20 clubs) and the three divisions of the English Football League (EFL; 72 clubs). Currently, a non-League team would be any club playing in the National League or below that level. Typically, non-League clubs are either semi-professional or amateur in status, although the majority of clubs in the National League are fully professional, some of which are former EFL clubs who have suffered relegation. Jimmy Cantrell
James Cantrell (7 May 1882 – 31 July 1960) was an English professional footballer who played as a forward for Aston Villa, Notts County, Tottenham Hotspur and Sutton Town. Football career Cantrell began his professional career at Aston Villa. The inside forward played in 48 matches and found the net on 22 occasions for the club between 1904–1907. He moved to Notts County in 1907 where he was converted into the centre forward position. Top scorer in his three seasons at County he maintained a goal every other match ratio in 131 matches and scoring 64 goals in his time there. Tottenham Hotspur impressed by his goal scoring paid a substantial sum for his services in 1912. In a career interrupted by the First World War Cantrell lead the Spurs forward line that won the Football League Second Division in 1919-20 with a then record 70 points. Charlie Tickle
Charles Henry Tickle (late 1883G.R.O. Birth Index, December Quarter 1883, Kings Norton District, Vol. 6c, p. 429. – 1960) was an English professional footballer who played in the Football League for Small Heath, which was renamed Birmingham during his time at the club. Tickle was born in Kings Norton, which was then in north Worcestershire but has been part of Birmingham since 1911, and brought up in the Bournbrook district. He worked as a stencil-cutter, and played football for local clubs Selly Oak St Mary's and Bournbrook, before he signed professional forms for Small Heath, as the Birmingham club were then called, in January 1902. He made his Football League debut on 18 October 1902 in the Second Division away match against Gainsborough Trinity which Small Heath lost 1–0.
