James Rolph
James "Sunny Jim" Rolph Jr. (August 23, 1869 – June 2, 1934) was an American politician. A member of the Republican Party, he was elected to a single term as the 27th governor of California from January 6, 1931, until his death on June 2, 1934, at the height of the Great Depression. Previously, Rolph had been the 30th mayor of San Francisco from January 8, 1912, until his resignation to become governor. Rolph remains the longest-serving mayor in San Francisco history. Life and career Rolph was born in San Francisco, the son of Margaret (Nicol) and James Rolph. He had four brothers and two sisters. After attending school in the Mission District, he went to work as an office boy in a commission house. Rolph Eric van der Hoeven (born 23 June 1948) is emeritus professor on employment and development economics at the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague and was appointed in 2009 as a member of the Committee on Development Cooperation of the International Advisory Council (AIV) to the Politics of the Netherlands, Dutch Government. Dr. van der Hoeven is a member of the Board of Trustees of the KNCV Tuberculosis Fund. George Rolph
George Rolph (April 7, 1794 – July 25, 1875) was a lawyer and political figure in Upper Canada. He worked in the Hamilton and Ancaster area as a Clerk of the Peace and clerk of the district court. He represented Halton County in the Parliament of Upper Canada. Early life Rolph was born in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, England on April 7, 1794. His father was Thomas Rolph and his mother was Frances Petty. He moved to Upper Canada in 1808 and settled in Vittoria, Upper Canada. He served as a lieutenant in the Norfolk militia during the War of 1812. He participated in the Siege of Detroit and was awarded a gold medal for outstanding service. Rolph Stewart Grant (15 December 1909 – 18 October 1977) was a West Indian cricketer who captained West Indies on their 1939 tour of England. He played first-class cricket for Cambridge University in 1932 and 1933, and then for Trinidad from 1934 to 1939. Life and career Rolph Grant was a middle-order batsman and off-spin bowler. He made his highest first-class score for Trinidad against Barbados in 1933–34, when he scored 55 and 152, top-scoring in each innings. In the 10-wicket victory over Hampshire on the 1939 tour he top-scored with 54 and took his best figures of 4 for 41 and 2 for 24. Gary Leslie Rolph (born 24 February 1960) is an English retired footballer who played in the Football League for Brentford as a forward. Career A graduate of the Brentford youth team, Rolph made 12 appearances and scored one goal for Brentford between 1976 and 1979. Susan Rolph (born 15 May 1978) is a female former freestyle and medley swimmer from Great Britain. Swimming career Rolph was one of the dominating forces in the 1990s of British women's swimming. Her Commonwealth Games medal haul consists of three gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
