Rollercoaster (1999 Film)
''Rollercoaster'' is a 1999 teen drama film directed by Scott Smith. It is about five teens who escape a group home and travel to a defunct amusement park, hoping to find a notorious kid-friendly security guard who will run the rides for them. Although pursuing a fun-filled day, two of the teens, a couple expecting a baby, have formed a suicide pact and plan to use the amusement park to carry it out. It was filmed at Playland Amusement Park in Vancouver, Canada. Plot The film opens with a brown station wagon driving recklessly around an amusement park parking lot. When the car stops, four teenagers exit the vehicle: Stick (Brendan Fletcher), Darren (Kett Turton), Chloe (Crystal Buble), and Sanj (Sean Armstrong). Scott Smith (director)
Scott Smith is a Canadian television and film director. He has won multiple film festival awards for his 1999 film ''Rollercoaster''. He also directed the 2003 film '' Falling Angels'', based on the Barbara Gowdy novel, which achieved a nomination from the Directors Guild of Canada for Outstanding Achievement in Direction – Feature Film. In 2008, he directed and photographed the feature documentary, ''As Slow as Possible'', which follows blind author Ryan Knighton on a pilgrimage to Germany to hear a single note change in the notorious 639 year-long performance of the John Cage composition '' Organ²/ASLSP'' (As Slow As Possible). Playland Amusement Park is an amusement park in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The amusement park is located at Hastings Park and is operated by the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), an organization that hosts an annual summer fair and exhibition adjacent to Playland. Playland opened at its current location in 1958, although its predecessor, Happyland, operated at Hastings Park from 1929 to 1957. Playland was formally made a division of the PNE in 1993.
