Roll Up Your Sleeves
''Roll Up Your Sleeves'' is an Irish documentary about do-it-yourself counterculture directed by Dylan Haskins. It also examines the relationship between DIY culture and the need for autonomous social spaces, looking at various projects across Europe and how these compare with the situation in Ireland. Dylan Haskins
Dylan Haskins (born 20 June 1987) is an Irish broadcaster, documentary maker and producer. Haskins has been a proponent of the DIY ethic, and worked on several projects initiated as a teenager, including the establishment "non-alcohol spaces" in north Wicklow and Dublin. Haskins has also been involved in broadcasting, podcasts, and independent music management. He was an unsuccessful Independent candidate in the 2011 Irish general election. Career Music Haskins ran gigs in his former home, The Hideaway House which became a "hub" for the DIY music scene in Dublin and his independent record label Hide Away Records. Minor Threat
Minor Threat was an American hardcore punk band, formed in 1980 in Washington, D.C. by vocalist Ian MacKaye and drummer Jeff Nelson. MacKaye and Nelson had played in several other bands together, and recruited bassist Brian Baker and guitarist Lyle Preslar to form Minor Threat. They added a fifth member, Steve Hansgen, in 1982, playing bass, while Baker switched to second guitar. The band was relatively short-lived, disbanding after only three years together, but had a strong influence on the punk scene, both stylistically and in establishing a " do it yourself" ethic for music distribution and concert promotion. Minor Threat's song " Straight Edge" became the eventual basis of the straight edge movement, which emphasized a lifestyle without alcohol or other drugs, or promiscuous sex. Heathers are an indie pop act formed in 2007 in Dublin, Ireland by twin sisters Ellie and Louise Macnamara. They began writing music together in 2007 and in February 2008 recorded their debut album ''Here, Not There'' while preparing for their Leaving Certificate. The album was recorded in The Hive Studios in Kilcoole by Eoin Whitfield in a joint release between Irish Label Hide Away Records and US label Plan-It-X Records. The lead track from the album, "Remember When", was used by the Irish Tourist Board in a major advertising campaign subsequently leading to the re-release of the album though Warner Music Ireland. Project Arts Centre is a multidisciplinary arts centre based in Temple Bar, Dublin, which hosts visual arts, theatre, dance, music, and performance. Ian Thomas Garner MacKaye (; born April 16, 1962) is an American musician. Active since 1979, he is best known as the co-founder and owner of Dischord Records, a Washington, D.C.-based independent record label and the frontman of hardcore punk band Minor Threat and post-hardcore band Fugazi.
