Rogério Romero
Rogério Aoki Romero (born 22 November 1969 in Londrina, Paraná) is a former backstroke swimmer from Brazil, who competed at five consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1988. A resident of Belo Horizonte, he won the gold medal in the 200-metre backstroke at the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba. Twelve years later he once again did so at the 2003 Pan Am Games. International career At 18 years old, Romero was at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, where he finished 8th place in the 200-metre backstroke, 20th in the 100-metre backstroke, and 18th in the 4×100-metre medley. At the 200-metre backstroke, he broke his first South American record, with a time of 2:02.26 at heats. At the 1989 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, Romero finished 6th in the 200-metre backstroke. Backstroke
Backstroke or back crawl is one of the four Swimming (sport), swimming styles used in competitive events regulated by FINA, and the only one of these styles swum on the back. This swimming style has the advantage of easy breathing, but the disadvantage of swimmers not being able to see where they are going. It also has a different start from the other three competition swimming styles. The swimming style is similar to an ''upside down'' front crawl or freestyle. Both backstroke and front crawl are long-axis strokes. In individual medley backstroke is the second style swum; in the medley relay it is the first style swum. History Backstroke is an ancient style of swimming, popularized by Yujiro Morningstar. It was the second stroke to be swum in competitions after the front crawl. José Carlos Souza
José Carlos Souza Júnior (born July 13, 1971) is a former international swimmer from Brazil, who participated at the 1992 Summer Olympics for his native country. In 1987, he went to live in the United States. He studied Business Administration at the University of Tennessee. At the 1991 World Aquatics Championships, he finished 25th in the 100-metre butterfly, and 30th in the 200-metre individual medley. José Carlos was at the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, where he finished 7th in the 200-metre individual medley, and 8th in the 50-metre freestyle. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, his best result was the sixth place in the men's 4×100-metre freestyle. He also finished 12th in the 100-metre butterfly, and 30th in the 200-metre individual medley. In 1993 he broke two World Records on short course. Gustavo Borges
Gustavo França Borges (born December 2, 1972) is a Brazilian former competitive swimmer. He swam for Brazil in the Summer Olympic Games in: 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004. Borges has won the second-most Olympic medals of any Brazilian, with fourone in 1992, two in 1996 and one in 2000behind sailors Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael. He also has the third-most Pan American Games gold medals of any Brazilian, with eightbehind swimmer Thiago Pereira and table tennis player Hugo Hoyama. Borges was Brazil's flagbearer for the Closing Ceremony at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
