Roger Hill (judge)
Roger Hill (1 December 1605 – 21 April 1667), of Poundisford Parkin Somerset, was an English judge and Member of Parliament. Hill was born at Colyton in Devon, the eldest son of William Hill of Poundisford Park, member of a family of Somerset squires who could trace their ancestry back to a Sir John Hill in the reign of Edward III. He was admitted to the Inner Temple on 22 March 1624, and was called to the bar on 10 February 1632, becoming a bencher of the Inn in 1649. In March 1644, he was the junior of the five counsel employed against Archbishop Laud, and from 1646 headed a set of Chambers in the Temple. Though named in the commission for the trial of the King he never sat on it, but he subsequently served as assistant to the attorney-general during the Commonwealth. He also represented Taunton in the Short Parliament and Bridport in the Long Parliament, remaining an active member of the Rump, and served as Recorder of Bridport. Sir Roger Hill (19 June 1642 – 29 December 1729) of Denham Place, Buckinghamshire was an English landowner, courtier and Whig politician who sat in the English and British House of Commons between 1679 and 1722. Hill was the eldest surviving son of Roger Hill of Poundisford Park, Somerset and his second wife Abigail Gurdon, daughter of Brampton Gurdon of Assington, Suffolk. He was admitted at Jesus College, Cambridge on 8 June 1658 and admitted at the Inner Temple in 1657, where he was called to the bar in 1666. He was planning to follow his father into the legal profession, but his father died in 1667, and he succeeded to the Poundisfoot estate. In 1667, he married Abigail Lockey, the daughter of John Lockey of Holmshill, Hertfordshire, He was knighted in July 1668. Roger Hill is a British radio presenter, producer and art director, from Leicester England. He is best known for presenting the UK's longest-running alternative music programme called 'The Popular Music Show' on BBC Radio Merseyside. Life Hill was raised in Leicester, England. He studied at Cambridge University, receiving a degree in English and Drama. Hill went on to become a teacher in Leeds, England. After he left the city, he was unemployed and put on one of the first job creation schemes, after moving in with his brother in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and found work in a theatre company in Liverpool.
