Roel Stenhuis
Roelof Stenhuis (26 March 1885 – 1963) was a Dutch trade union leader and politician. Born in Zuidbroek, he left school at the age of 15 and did a number of jobs before becoming a factory worker. He joined the youth movement of the Social Democratic Workers' Party (SDAP), and then the party itself. In 1906, Herman Gorter sent him to Limburg to try to found a miners' union there, but it was not a success. However, in Groningen, he led a successful strike of metal workers, then in 1907 became the main founder of the Dutch Union of Factory Workers, editing its newspaper ''De Fabrieksarbeider'', and serving as general secretary until 1914, then as president. In 1919, Stenhuis moved to become president of the Dutch Confederation of Trade Unions (NVV). Under his leadership, it committed to a socialist programme and began working closely with the SDAP. The Communist Party of the Netherlands ( nl, Communistische Partij Nederland, , CPN) was a Dutch communist party. The party was founded in 1909 as the Social-Democratic Party (SDP) and merged with the Pacifist Socialist Party, the Political Party of Radicals and the Evangelical People's Party in 1991, forming the centre-left GreenLeft. The International Federation of Chemical, Energy and General Workers' Unions (ICEF) was a global union federation of trade unions. History The secretariat was founded in August 1907, as the International Federation of General Factory Workers, but became inactive during World War I. It was re-established on 27 October 1920 at a conference in Amsterdam, and set up its headquarters at 17 Museumplein in the city. By 1935, the federation had affiliates in Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the UK, and Yugoslavia. The federation held regular sectional conferences for the chemical industry. Jan Oudegeest
Jan Oudegeest (5 August 1870 – 10 October 1950) was a Dutch trade unionist and politician. Born in Utrecht, Oudegeest worked on the railways and in 1898 founded the Dutch Association of Railway and Tramway Employees (NV), and became the first union's chair. In this role, he led a major strike in 1903, but afterward decided against strike action. When the Nederlands Verbond van Vakverenigingen was founded in 1906, Oudegeest became its first secretary, and in 1909 he took over as its president, serving until 1919. In this role, Oudegeest was highly critical of the Christian trade unions, believing them to be pro-capitalist. Oudegeest was a founding member of the International Labour Organization, as well as vice-chair of its administrative council for many years, where he made an unsuccessful attempt to bring the social democratic and Marxist internationals together. Klaas De Jonge
Klaas de Jonge (29 June 1887 – 19 April 1958) was a Dutch trade union leader. Born in Hoogezand, de Jonge trained as a printer, then later worked in a factory. He joined the Dutch Union of Factory Workers (NVvFA), and also the Social Democratic Workers' Party (SDAP). In 1913, he was the first social democrat to win election to the local council, and in 1914, he became district secretary of the SDAP. That year, he began working full-time for the NVvFA, while in 1915, he won election to the council in Winschoten. In 1917, he was elected as the secretary of the NVvFA, during a period of rapid growth for the union, then in 1921 he became its president. He was elected to the executive of the International Federation of Factory Workers in 1923, and became its general secretary in 1929. The Black Front ( nl, Zwart Front) was a Dutch Greater Netherlandic and Fascist movement active before the Second World War. The House of Representatives (, pronounced ; commonly referred to as the ', literally "Second Chamber of the States General") is the lower house of the bicameral parliament of the Netherlands, the States General, the other one being the Senate.
