Roda ( sr-cyr, Рода, ''Stork'') is a chain of retail stores that began operating in 1994 by opening its first location in Kula. By developing a retail network of megamarkets, first in Vojvodina, and then throughout Serbia, Roda positioned itself as a store for large and family purchases. History In October 2006, Mercator Group from Slovenia bought 76% of shares of the M-Rodić company at 116 million euros and thus became the majority owner of Roda Markets. The process of the complete take-over of the company was completed in 2009, when Roda became a part of Mercator-S, and since April 2021 it has been an integral part of the Fortenova Group retail. Mercator Serbia
Mercator Serbia ( sr, Меркатор Србија) or Mercator-S, is a Serbian supermarket chain, a part of Mercator Group, an international retail chain based in Slovenia. As of 2016, it has 15.98% market share in Serbia. History The company was established in 2002, when the first Mercator Center Belgrade was opened in New Belgrade. The 50,000 square meter Center was completely renovated and re-opened in 2012. In October 2006, Mercator bought 76% of Rodić M&B company for 116 million euros and became the major shareholder in Roda Supermarkets. The complete ownership takeover of this company was finished in 2009. In June 2013, Croatian Agrokor Group initiated and in June 2014 finished the takeover of Mercator Group, and initiated the integration of their operations in Serbia under the Mercator brand, including Mercator Centers, Roda Megamarkets and IDEA supermarkets. Kula, Serbia
Kula ( sr-Cyrl, Кула, rue, Кула, hu, Kúla) is a town and municipality located in the West Bačka District of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. The town has a population of 17,866, while the municipality has a population of 43,101. Name In Serbian, the town is known as ''Kula'' (Кула); in Rusyn as Кула, in Hungarian as ''Kúla'', in Croatian as ''Kula'', in German as ''Kula'' or ''Wolfsburg'', and in Turkish as ''Kula''. The name ''Kule'' means "tower" in Turkish and Serbian. In the 16th-17th century, a tower with Ottoman military garrison existed at this location, hence the name of the town. However it cannot be said for sure whether Ottoman Turks or local Serbs gave this name to the town. History In the middle of the 17th century, during Ottoman administration, two settlements with this name were mentioned - ''Gornja Kula'' and ''Donja Kula''. Fortenova Group is a food producer and retailer based in Zagreb. It has been operating since 1 April 2019. The company was established through the implementation of the Settlement Plan closed between the creditors of Agrokor which had, due to illiquidity and over-indebtedness, ended up in pre-bankruptcy, managed through the Extraordinary Administration Procedure pursuant to the Act on Extraordinary Administration Procedures in Companies of Systemic Importance for the Republic of Croatia.
