''Rockoon'' is the forty-fourth major release and twenty-first studio album released by Tangerine Dream. The album was started in March 1991 and completed January 1992, making it the longest production ever in the band's history until the release of ''Quantum Gate'' in 2017. The album was nominated in the US for the "Best New Age Album 1992" Grammy and reached the Top Ten in Billboard New Age charts and the Top Twenty in Billboard Jazz charts. It is the first full album of Tangerine Dream music as a father and son duo. Saxophone player Linda Spa who joined in 1990 does not appear on this release. The album was re-released in 1999 on Tangerine Dream's own TDI label with new cover artwork by Edgar Froese. Tangerine Dream
Tangerine Dream is a German electronic music band founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese. The group has seen many personnel changes over the years, with Froese having been the only constant member until his death in January 2015. The best-known lineup of the group was its mid-1970s trio of Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann. In 1979, Johannes Schmoelling replaced Baumann. Since Froese's death in 2015, the group has been under the leadership of Thorsten Quaeschning (Froese's chosen successor and the current longest-serving band member, having joined in 2005). He was joined by violinist Hoshiko Yamane in 2011, Ulrich Schnauss in 2014 and Paul Frick in 2020. Tangerine Dream are considered a pioneering act in electronica. Phillip Calvert (born 11 January 1958) is an Australian rock drummer and producer best known for his playing in the post-punk band The Birthday Party with Nick Cave. History At the private boys school Caulfield Grammar in the early 1970s Calvert met vocalist Nick Cave and guitarist Mick Harvey and formed a rock band with other students, playing parties and school functions. Jerome Froese (born 24 November 1970 in Berlin, Germany) is a German musician who, in 1990, officially joined his father Edgar Froese in the band Tangerine Dream. He remained a member until 2006. Prior to his direct involvement in Tangerine Dream, Froese often appeared on the covers of the band's albums as a child, beginning with the 1973 release of '' Atem'', when he was two years four months old at the time the album was released. Career In 1982, Froese started playing guitar and keyboard. A few years later, in 1985, he began playing drums after he got a drumkit for Christmas. Linda Spa (aka Mag. Gerlinde Spazierer, born 4 September 1968, in Vienna) is an Austrian composer. Originally she learned fashion design in Vienna, but soon started with her musical training. She studied flute, clarinet, saxophone and composition. In addition, Linda Spa is a trained conductor and arranger. In addition to many international artistic works, especially for theater and film music scores, actually in Austria in the field of stage- and acting music, she played for many years with Edgar Froese's band Tangerine Dream as saxophonist, keyboardist and conductor. It is the first full-length album since the death of founder Edgar Froese in 2015, and is largely based on ideas and musical sketches left by Froese. Quinoa (album)
''Quinoa'' is the forty-sixth release by the German band Tangerine Dream. Background Quinoa was released in February 1992 as a limited edition of 1000 copies. It was sent out as a special gift to members of the now defunct official TD International Fan Club, and the remaining copies were sold during their German tour in 1997. The CD featured one single composition "Quinoa" of 28 minutes. The album was re-issued on 14 July 1998 on their new label TDI. It was sold in unlimited quantity, and contained two bonus tracks. One of these tracks, "Voxel Ux", was originally composed for a competition on the band's official 1996 homepage. The winner received a CDR with the track, of which there is only one copy. Edgar Froese
Edgar Willmar Froese (; 6 June 1944 – 20 January 2015) was a German musical artist and electronic music pioneer, best known for founding the electronic music group Tangerine Dream in 1967. Froese was the only continuous member of the group until his death. Although his solo and group recordings prior to 2003 name him as "Edgar Froese", his later solo albums bear the name "Edgar W. Froese". Biography Froese was born in Tilsit, East Prussia (now Sovetsk, Russia), on D-Day during World War II; members of his family, including his father, had been killed by the Nazis and after the war his mother and surviving family settled in Berlin.
