Paul Verhoeven (; born 18 July 1938) is a Dutch director, producer and screenwriter, active in the Netherlands, France and the United States. His blending of graphic violence and sexual content with social satire is a trademark of both his drama and science fiction films. Officer Alex James Murphy ( designation number: OCP Crime Prevention Unit 001), commonly known as RoboCop, is a fictional cybernetically-enhanced Detroit Police Department officer from Murfreesboro, Tennessee and is the main protagonist in the film series of the same name.
