Roberto Montenegro
Roberto Montenegro Nervo (February 19, 1885 in Guadalajara – October 13, 1968 in Mexico City) was a painter, muralist and illustrator, who was one of the first to be involved in the Mexican muralism movement after the Mexican Revolution. His most important mural work was done at the former San Pedro and San Pablo monastery but as his work did not have the same drama as other muralists, such as Diego Rivera, he lost prominence in this endeavor. Most of his career is dedicated to illustration and publishing, portrait painting and the promotion of Mexican handcrafts and folk art. Saturnino Herrán Guinchard (9 July 1887 – 8 October 1918) was a Mexican painter influential to Latin culture in the late 19th and early 20th century. Biography Born a mix of Indigenous Mexican and Swiss descent, Saturnino Herrán was raised in Aguascalientes, a city in North-Central Mexico ingrained with Spanish culture. Francisco Goitia
Francisco Bollaín y Goitia García (4 October 1882 – 26 March 1960) was a Mexican artist. Goitia was a reclusive and complicated man, whose life and work was heavily influenced by the Mexican Revolution. He was of the Mexican muralism generation but did not share its politics. Goitia worked with the Francisco Villa army, creating works depicting the violence of that time and afterwards, worked with anthropologist Manuel Gamio depicting indigenous history and culture. He lived most of the last half of his life simply in then-rural Xochimilco, away from the cultural and intellectual life of Mexico City, dying there in his house. He did not leave behind a large collection of work, but a number of his paintings are notable in their own right such as ''Tata Jesucristo''. Ángel Zárraga (y) Argüelles (August 16, 1886 in Victoria de Durango – September 22, 1946) was a Mexican painter. He was a founding member of the cultural organization '' El Ateneo de la Juventud''. His work was part of the art competitions at the 1928 Summer Olympics and the 1932 Summer Olympics. Germán Gedovius
Germán Gedovius (1867–1937) was a Mexican painter. Biography Gedovius was born in Mexico City in 1867 before moving as an infant with his family to San Luis Potosí. When he was sixteen years old he returned to Mexico City to attend the Academy of San Carlos, where he was a pupil of Salomé Pina and Rafael Flores. At the age of twenty, and after four years of study at San Carlos, he was sent by his father to Germany to continue his studies and to receive medical treatment at clinics specializing in the treatment of deafness since birth. Gedovius recovered successfully after a year because of their medical efforts, and he began to speak, learning German. Leandro Izaguirre (February 13, 1867 in Mexico City – February 26, 1941 in Mexico City) was a Mexican painter, illustrator and teacher. He entered the Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City in 1884. He is perhaps best known for his ''Torture of Cuauhtémoc'' (1892) which he would demonstrate a year later in Philadelphia and win an award for. The Academy of San Carlos ( es, Academia de San Carlos) is located at 22 Academia Street in just northeast of the main plaza of Mexico City. It was the first major art academy and the first art museum in the Americas. It was founded in 1781 as the School of Engraving and moved to the Academia Street location about 10 years later. It emphasized classical European training until the early 20th century, when it shifted to a more modern perspective. Justo Sierra Méndez (January 26, 1848 – September 13, 1912), was a Mexican prominent liberal writer, historian, journalist, poet and political figure during the Porfiriato, in the second half of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century.
