Robert Woodbury
Robert Woodbury (1938 - September 12, 2009) was an American politician and university administrator. Woodbury was the Chancellor of the University of Maine system from 1986 to 1993. In 1994, Woodbury ran in the Democratic Party's primary for Governor, losing to former Governor Joe Brennan. Woodbury finished in fourth place with 8%. After earning his Ph.D., Woodbury worked as professor at the California Institute of Technology. Leaving California, Woodbury took an administrative position at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He moved to Maine in 1979 and took a position with the University of Maine. He helped form the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine. Personal Woodbury graduated from Belmont Hill School, a boarding school in Massachusetts, in 1956. Maine Democratic Party
The Maine Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Maine. After the Civil War, Democrats were a minor player in a political scene dominated by the Republican Party. However, during the 1950s, Edmund Muskie led an expansive political insurgency culminating in his election as Governor of Maine and successive Democratic elections to both state and national offices. From 2012 to 2019, despite having a Republican governor in Paul LePage, the party remained strong, holding key offices in the state government and the U.S. Congress and maintaining a majority in the Maine House of Representatives for six of LePage's eight years in office. It is currently the state's favored party, controlling both houses of the state legislature, governorship, and both of Maine's U.S. House seats. Maine Senate
The Maine Senate is the upper house of the Maine Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Maine. The Senate currently consists of 35 members representing an equal number of districts across the state, though the Maine Constitution allows for "an odd number of Senators, not less than 31 nor more than 35". Unlike the lower House, the Senate does not set aside nonvoting seats for Native tribes. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine Senate usually have outside employment as well. The Senate meets at the Maine State House in Augusta. Members are limited to four consecutive terms with each term being two years but may run again after a two-year wait. Richard Woodbury
Richard Glen Woodbury (born October 10, 1961) is an American politician and economist from Maine. Woodbury served as an unenrolled State Senator from Maine's 11th District, representing part of Cumberland County, including the population centers of Falmouth and Cumberland as well as his residence in Yarmouth. He was first elected to the Maine State Senate in 2010 after defeating incumbent Republican Gerald Davis and Green Independent Chris Miller. The Democrat in the race, Cynthia Bullens, dropped out of the race and endorsed Woodbury, though her name remained on the ballot. He served three terms from 2002 to 2008 in the Maine House of Representatives.
