Robert W. White (mayor)
Robert W. White (1922 — 1985) was mayor of Scarborough, Ontario from 1969 until 1972; the second person to hold the office. White was a businessman who operated a florist business, James White & Sons, founded by his grandfather in 1920 and still operated by the White family as of 2022. He was elected a school trustee in 1956 before being elected to Scarborough Township Council in 1959. When Scarborough mayor Ab Campbell was appointed Metro Chairman in 1969, Scarbrough council acclaimed White to succeed him as mayor and he went on to be elected outright in the 1969 municipal election. During his tenure in office, the Scarborough Civic Centre and Scarborough Town Centre were planned and built. White was embroiled in a scandal when he accepted a free flight from a land developer so that he would return to Scarborough from Halifax, Nova Scotia in time to vote for a public housing project in which the developer was involved. Scarborough (; 2021 Canadian census, 2021 Census 629,941) is a district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is situated atop the Scarborough Bluffs in the eastern part of the city. Albert Campbell (Canadian Politician)
Albert McTaggart "Ab" Campbell (1910–1973) was a Canadian politician and the Chairman of Metropolitan Toronto from 1969 to 1973. Background Campbell was born on a family farm in Ridgetown, Ontario, in 1910 to John M. Campbell and Isabella McTaggart. He attended the Ontario Agricultural College at Guelph and graduated with a B.S.C. from the University of Toronto in 1933. After leaving the family farm he was, for almost 15 years, a secondary school teacher teaching chemistry, physics and math. In 1944, he moved to Scarborough to settle on his wife's family farm (Helen E. Huber) which they inherited after her uncle's death, James G. Cornell, the same year. Paul Cosgrove
Paul James Cosgrove, (born December 30, 1934), is a former Canadian jurist as well as a former politician. Cosgrove is, as of , the last surviving mayor of the former city of Scarborough. Political career A lawyer by profession, Cosgrove entered municipal politics and served as Mayor of the Toronto suburb of Scarborough, Ontario from 1973 until 1978. Cosgrove entered federal politics running as the Liberal Party candidate in York—Scarborough in a 1978 by-election for a seat in the House of Commons of Canada. He was defeated in that run, as well as in the 1979 election. Scarborough Civic Centre
The Scarborough Civic Centre is a civic centre located in the Scarborough district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was designed by architect Raymond Moriyama during the development of Scarborough City Centre and initially opened as the city hall of the former borough of Scarborough by then mayor Albert Campbell and Queen Elizabeth II in 1973. The building served as the municipal office and office for the Scarborough Board of Education. Scarborough Town Centre (STC) is a shopping mall in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
