Robert Thornton (darts Player)
Robert "Bob" Thornton (born 17 July 1967) is a Scottish professional darts player, who is the current two-time World Seniors champion. Thornton is a three-time major winner between the British Darts Organisation, BDO and PDC, having won the World Masters (darts), World Masters in 2007 World Masters (darts), 2007, UK Open (darts), UK Open in 2012 UK Open, 2012, and World Grand Prix (darts), World Grand Prix in 2015 World Grand Prix (darts), 2015. He is also a former finalist at the Players Championship Finals in 2009 Players Championship Finals, 2009 and Grand Slam of Darts in 2013 Grand Slam of Darts, 2013. The 2013 Coral (bookmaker), Coral Masters was the inaugural staging of the non-ranking darts tournament The Masters (darts), Masters, held by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). It was held between 1–3 November 2013 at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland. Phil Taylor (darts player), Phil Taylor won the title by beating Adrian Lewis 10–1 in the final. 2012 PDC Pro Tour
The 2012 PDC Pro Tour was a series of non-televised darts tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). They were the Professional Dart Players Association (PDPA) Players Championships, the UK Open Qualifiers, and the new European Tour events. This year there were 33 PDC Pro Tour events – 20 Players Championships, 8 UK Open Qualifiers, and 5 European Tour events. Prize money Prize money for each Players Championship and UK Open Qualifier is £34,600, unchanged from 2011. Prize money for each European Tour event was £82,100. In addition, the 32 players who failed to qualify for a European Tour event at the final qualifying stage receive £100. A further £400 per Pro Tour event (£800 per European Tour event) was reserved for a nine-dart finish. If this was not won in an event, it was carried over to the next event, and so on until a nine-dart finish was achieved. The 2015 European Darts Open was the sixth of nine PDC European Tour events on the 2015 PDC Pro Tour. The tournament took place at the Maritim Hotel in Düsseldorf, Germany between 10 and 12 July 2015. It featured a field of 48 players and £115,000 in prize money, with £25,000 going to the winner. Dutch Open (darts)
The Dutch Open is amongst the longest running darts tournaments having started back in 1973. The popularity of darts in the Netherlands since Raymond van Barneveld began amassing world titles has seen the number of entries for the tournament rise dramatically. The 2007 event had 2867 entries in the Men's Singles, 1179 in the Men's Pairs, 418 in the Women's Singles and 176 in the Women's Pairs. Although the tournament is classed an "Open" event, only players eligible to for the Winmau World Masters and BDO World Championship are now allowed to enter. The 2023 JENNINGSbet World Seniors Champion of Champions was the first staging of the World Seniors Champion of Champions tournament, organised by the World Seniors Darts Tour. The tournament took place at Viva!, Blackpool, England, from 25 to 26 March 2023. It featured a field of 8 players. 2022 World Seniors Darts Masters
The 2022 World Seniors Darts Masters (known for sponsorship reasons as the 2022 JENNINGSbet World Seniors Darts Masters) was the first World Seniors Darts Masters organised by the World Seniors Darts Tour and was held at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green between 27–29 May 2022. The event was open to players over the age of 50, and was a joint venture between MODUS Sports and Jason Francis, which organised Snooker Legends and World Seniors Championship of Snooker in 2017–18. David Cameron became the inaugural champion after defeating Phil Taylor 6–3 in the final. 2022 World Seniors Darts Matchplay
The 2022 World Seniors Darts Matchplay (known for sponsorship reasons as the 2022 JENNINGSbet World Seniors Darts Matchplay) was the first World Seniors Darts Matchplay organised by the World Seniors Darts Tour and was held at the Bonus Arena in Kingston upon Hull between 1–3 July 2022. Robert Thornton won his second WSDT title, by defeating Phil Taylor 12–10 in the final, after Taylor missed two match darts to win the title. He had a dart whilst leading 8–6 at double 16, and also missed a dart at double 18 when leading 8–7. Thornton then brought the final to extra legs, which he eventually got two clear in to win 12–10. The 2023 World Seniors Darts Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the 2023 JENNINGSbet World Seniors Darts Championship) was the second World Seniors Darts Championship organised by the World Seniors Darts Tour. It took place at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet between 9 and 12 February 2023. The event was open to players over the age of 50, except current PDC Tour Card holders. The tournament was expanded from 24 to 32 players.
