Robert Pringle (1798–1842)
Robert Pringle (1798 – 15 December 1842) was a British Army officer and politician. Pringle lived at Clifton Park in Roxburghshire. He served in 7th Queen's Own Hussars in the British Army, becoming a captain. At the 1832 UK general election, he stood as a Whig (British political party), Whig in Selkirkshire (UK Parliament constituency), Selkirkshire. He won the seat, becoming the fifth generation of his family to represent the county. In Parliament, he argued against monopolies and sinecures. He stood for re-election at the 1835 UK general election, but was defeated, and failed to regain the seat at the 1837 UK general election. There have been two baronetcies created for members of the Scottish Pringle family, one in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia and one in the Baronetage of Great Britain. As of , one creation is extant. The Pringle Baronetcy, of Stichill in the County of Roxburgh, was created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia on 5 January 1683 for Robert Pringle. The fourth Baronet sat as Member of Parliament for Berwickshire. The Pringle Baronetcy, of Pall Mall, was created in the Baronetage of Great Britain on 5 June 1766 for the physician John Pringle. Robert Pringle (politician)
Robert Pringle (died 1736) was a Scottish lawyer and politician. Life He was the third son of Sir Robert Pringle, 1st Baronet, of Stitchel, by his wife, Margaret, daughter of Sir John Hope, Lord Craighall, a lord of session; and a younger brother of Sir Walter Pringle of Lochton, Lord Newhall. After studying at the University of Leyden, which he entered 19 November 1687, he took service under William, Prince of Orange, with whom he went over to England at the Glorious Revolution of 1688. Pringle was in practice as an attorney, and was then appointed under-secretary of state for Scotland in 1695. In this capacity he attended King William in his campaigns abroad. On 18 May 1718 Pringle was appointed Secretary at War, and he held that office until 24 December. Subsequently he became registrar-general of the shipping. Robert Abercrombie Pringle (December 15, 1855 – January 9, 1922) was a Canadian lawyer and politician. Born in Cornwall, Canada West, the son of Jacob Farrand Pringle and Isabella Fraser, (daughter of Col. Alexander Fraser), Pringle was educated in public and high schools and Queen's University. Robert Thomas Pringle (born 1943) is an American poet, schoolmaster and park ranger. Of Scottish descent and originally from Westerville, Ohio, from 1962 to 1987 Pringle was a schoolteacher, teaching English and biology in high schools. Since then, he has concentrated on poetry, but has also worked as a park ranger at the Inniswood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve, Inniswood Metro Gardens, as a rural mail carrier, a laboratory technician in bacteriology, a house painter, and as an attendant in a mental hospital.''Cold Front'' (Pudding House Publicationsp. 35/ref> In 1998 he was the joint owner of a herd of Alpine (goat), Alpine goats. Prof Robert William Pringle OBE FRSE FRSC FIP FAPS (2 May 1920–20 June 1996) was a 20th century Scottish physicist. Life He was born in Edinburgh on 2 May 1920 the son of Llllias Dalgleish Hair and her husband, Robert Pringle. He was educated at George Heriot's School then studied physics at the University of Edinburgh, gaining the Vans Dunlop scholarship and graduated with a BSc in 1942. After graduation he assisted in University lectures. In 1945 he took up the post of lecturer under Professor Norman Feather. In 1948 he left Edinburgh to go to Canada as Assistant Professor of Physics at the University of Manitoba becoming a full professor in 1951, aged 31. He left there in 1955 to return to the UK where he took on the role as Chairman of Nuclear Enterprises (UK) Ltd.
