Robert May (cook)
Robert May (1588 – in or after 1664) was an English professional chef who trained in France and worked in England. He is best known for writing and publishing the 1660 cookbook ''The Accomplisht Cook''. It was the first major book of English recipes, and contains instructions for many soups and broths, as well as recipes for both sweet and savoury pies. Background May was born in Wing, Buckinghamshire to Edwarde and Joan Mayes in 1588, however he was not baptised until 2 April 1592. His father worked at Ascott Park as the chief cook to the Dormer family. At age ten, May was sent to Paris by Lady Dormer—where he trained for five years to become a chef. Following his training, he served his apprenticeship in London, working for Arthur Hollinsworth (cook to the Grocer's Hall and Star Chamber). Robert Anthony May (born October 6, 1968) is an American professional golfer. He lost to Tiger Woods in a three-hole playoff for the 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla. Early life and amateur career May was born on October 6, 1968. He attended Los Altos High School in Hacienda Heights, California, and was featured in the Faces in the Crowd section in ''Sports Illustrated'' at age sixteen in 1984. Robert H. May (June 8, 1927 – July 20, 2014) was a Canadian ice hockey player and coach most well known for his brief tenure at North Dakota where he won the program's first National Champion in 1959. Career May played for North Dakota for two seasons in the early 1950s and was named captain his final year. After graduating May turned to coaching, first leading Wayzata High School then Roosevelt High School before he was named as the bench boss for his alma mater. May was appointed coach of the Fighting Sioux when the university's president chose him instead of Ken Johannson, when the athletic directors were undecided. May's first season brought incredible success as the Fighting Sioux won their first conference title and reached the 1958 NCAA Championship game. Robert William May (6 July 1909 – 16 April 1986) was an Australian politician. Born in Yarram to grazier Robert May and Elizabeth Buist Wilson, May attended Macks Creek State School and Yarram High School before becoming a dairy farmer and grazier in Trenton Valley. On 21 April 1930 he married Helena Rossiter, with whom he had seven children. A director of South Eastern Dairy, Yarram Dairy Company and Australian Dairy Techmcas Services, May joined the Country Party in 1934 and sided with John McEwen in the 1930s split, serving as a central councillor when the party was reunited in 1943.
