Robert Manning (engineer)
Robert Manning (22 October 1816 – 9 December 1897) was an Irish hydraulic engineer best known for creation of the Manning formula. Manning was born in Normandy, France, the son of a soldier who had fought the previous year at the Battle of Waterloo. In 1826 he moved to Waterford, Ireland and in time worked as an accountant. In 1846, during the year of the great famine, Manning was recruited into the Arterial Drainage Division of the Irish Office of Public Works. After working as a draughtsman for a while, he was appointed an assistant engineer to Samuel Roberts later that year. In 1848, he became district engineer, a position he held until 1855. As a district engineer, he read "''Traité d'Hydraulique''" by d'Aubisson des Voissons, after which he developed a great interest in hydraulics. From 1855 to 1869, Manning was employed by the Marquis of Downshire, while he supervised the construction of the Dundrum Bay Harbour in Ireland and designed a water supply system for Belfa ...

Robert Joseph Manning (December 25, 1919 – September 28, 2012) was an American journalist. He worked as London Bureau Chief for Time from 1958 to 1961, Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs and editor of ''The Atlantic''. Works Manning published an autobiography in 1992 entitled ''The Swamp Root Chronicle: Adventures in the Word Trade''. Career Manning worked as the Sunday editor of ''The New York Herald Tribune'' and in 1966 became the 10th editor in chief of ''The Atlantic''. Bob began singing gospel music as a child in Virginia, U.S., and followed a stage career to New York City where he worked with among others: Gladys Knight, James Brown, Bo Diddley, Dick Clark, The Coasters and later The Four Tops. Bob Manning (February 1, 1926 – October 23, 1997) was an American big band singer who was popular in the 1950s, and well known through his radio and television appearances. Biography Manning was born Manny Levin on February 1, 1926. Cold, Cold Heart is a British post rock band. Their music is composed and performed by multi-instrumentalists Robert Manning, Chris Daniel, Gareth Jones and Alex Wilson. The band typically compose lengthy, cinematic guitar-based instrumental pieces. They made their UK national radio debut with Gideon Coe on BBC Radio 6 Music, and were subsequently featured on Amazing Radio and WFUV. Robert Charles Manning (born 16 October 1945) is the Mayor of the Cairns Regional Council, Queensland, Australia. Early life Manning was born in Cairns, and attended Edge Hill State School, and Cairns State High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from the University of Southern Queensland. Manning served three years in the Australian Army including service in the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971. Career Manning's first major position was as CEO of the Longreach Shire Council for eight years. In 1984 he returned to Cairns and became Secretary and then CEO of the Cairns Port Authority (including the Cairns Airport) for eighteen years from 1984 to 2002. Robert Mannyng (or Robert de Brunne; 1275 – c. 1338) was an English chronicler and Gilbertine Order, Gilbertine monk. Mannyng provides a surprising amount of information about himself in his two known works, ''Handlyng Synne'' and ''Mannyng's Chronicle''. In these two works, Mannyng tells of his residencies at the Gilbertine houses of Sempringham (near Bourne) and Sixhills, and also at the Gilbertine priory at Cambridge, St Edmund’s.
