Robert Handley
Robert 'Chopper' Handley (born 8 January 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn and St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the late 1980s. Handley, who could play both as a wingman and on the ball, debuted with Hawthorn in 1985 and finished the year in their losing Grand Final team. He struggled to hold his place in a strong Hawthorn side the following two seasons and left the club to play for Central District Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) in 1988. Hawthorn Football Club
The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. The 1985 VFL season was the 89th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 23 March until 28 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs. The season was the first to feature premiership matches on Friday nights.
