John R
John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century. Richbourg's highly stylized approach to on-air presentation of both music and advertising earned him popularity, but it also created identity confusion. Liberty Magnet High School
Liberty Magnet High School (also known as LMHS, Liberty High) is a public magnet school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States, founded in the 1950s but was closed in 2009. The school was subsequently reopened in 2011 as a magnet school. It is part of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. Liberty Magnet has a student body of approximately 1,100 students. The Houston Independent School District, the 7th largest school district in the United States, operates Wisdom, a public admission school that enrolls grades 9 through 12 (ages 14–18). Staunton High School is a public high school in Staunton, Virginia, United States. It is a part of Staunton City Schools, a public school district that also includes three elementary schools, a middle school, and an alternative education program. History Staunton High School was originally opened in the early 1900s and renamed Robert E. Lee High School in 1914 during the monthly school board meeting held on April 30, 1914 at the urging of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The school was named after Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate States Army, who also led the Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War. The original building, at 274 Churchville Avenue, is in Colonial Revival style. Legacy High School, formerly known as Robert E. Lee High School, is a public, co-educational secondary school in Midland, Texas. Legacy High School is a part of the Midland Independent School District. In October 2020, the Midland school board voted to rename the school "Legacy High School". History The school originally opened its doors in 1961, seven years before the city’s high schools integrated. The Midland ISD board voted to rename had six board members voting for, and one voting against the school's name change. Lee High School, is one of two Tyler Independent School District high school campuses in the city of Tyler, Texas, the other being Tyler High School. Riverside High School is a four-year secondary institution in Jacksonville, Florida. It was originally named after Confederate States of America general Robert E. Lee. Located in the Riverside and Avondale neighborhood, it is the second oldest high school in Jacksonville operating at its original location, after its traditional rival, Andrew Jackson High School.
