Robert Choe
Robert Choe (born 13 January 1940 in Malacca) is a former Malacca FA and Malaysia player in the 1950s–1960s. Career overview A Striker, Robert was a squad player for Malaya that captured the 1958, 1959 and 1960 Merdeka Tournament editions. In 1959, he was selected for the inaugural Asian Youth Championship. On 16 December 1961, Robert help the national team's to win the gold medal in the 1961 SEAP Games (now SEA Games) in Rangoon, the Burmese (now Myanmar) after beating the Burma in the finals. He also a part of the Malaya player that winning bronze medals in the 1962 Asian Games. In 1962, he was also offered by Eintracht Frankfurt and Tottenham Hotspur (along with Abdul Ghani Minhat) to attend a trial session. At the 1966 Asian Games in Bangkok, Robert was honored to captain the national squad before announcing his retirement from the international stage at the age of 26 to focus on a career as a banker. Malacca
Malacca ( ms, Melaka) is a state in Malaysia located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, next to the Strait of Malacca. The 1966 Asian Games (), also known as the V Asiad, were a continental multi-sport event that was held from 9 to 20 December 1966, in Bangkok, Thailand. A total of 142 events in 16 sports were contested by athletes during the games. Taiwan and Israel returned to the Asian Games, reversing the decision taken by Indonesia in the previous Asiad to debar the two countries. A total number of 2,500 athletes and officials from 18 countries, were involved in this Asiad. The 5th Asiad was the first one where women's volleyball was played. Pestabola Merdeka
Merdeka Tournament or Pestabola Merdeka is a friendly football tournament held in Malaysia to commemorate the Independence Day. The competition bears the Malay word for independence. As of 2022, it has been held 40 times, and decreasingly in recent decades. Matches in Merdeka tournament considered International "A" matches (Friendly match) by FIFA. Its final has been mainly held at Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. An unusual feature is it has four times seen a draw result, twice with the home nation and teams from South Korea, and twice with the latter and variously Taiwan and Myanmar (then predominantly called Burma). The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, India, until the 1978 Games. AFC Youth Championship
The AFC U-20 Asian Cup, formerly known as the AFC Youth Championship and AFC U-19 Championship, is a biennial international association football competition organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's under-20 national teams of Asia. The competition has been held since 1959. Between 1959 and 1978 AFC Youth Championship, 1978, the tournament was held annually (without qualification); since 1980 AFC Youth Championship, 1980, it has been held every two years. The FAM Cup (Malay: Piala FAM) was a knock-out tournament for teams in both the Malaysia M3 League and the Malaysia M4 League in Malaysia. Wolfgang Fahrian
Wolfgang Fahrian (31 May 1941 – 13 April 2022) was a German professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Playing career Having been a defender initially, Fahrian was trained as a goalkeeper following a goalkeeper shortage at TSG Ulm 1846 in the early 1960s. Although impressive in his new role, his call-up by Sepp Herberger for the West Germany national team clash against Uruguay in April 1962 caused a great stir due to the fact he was not a top-division player at that time. In the fixture he kept a clean sheet, something that saw him brought into West Germany's 1962 FIFA World Cup squad. Despite his first cap seeing an impressive performance, it was expected that Hans Tilkowski would be the undoubted first choice for Herberger's West Germany side and Fahrian would just be taken as a reserve goalkeeper.
