Robert Beacham
Robert Beacham (or Beauchamp) was a founding settler of Norwalk, Connecticut. He originally settled at Ipswitch, Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1648. His land in Norwalk was immediately south of the present day site of the East Norwalk Historical Cemetery, and the bridge leading south from that area was formerly called ''Beacham's Bridge''. Due to his location being in between the main area of the settlement and the area then called ''The Neck'' where cattle grazed, he served as a "gate-keeper." He left Norwalk in 1657 or 1658, and settled near Green's Farms in present-day Westport. Connecticut () is the southernmost state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. Ipswich is a coastal town in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 13,785 at the 2020 census. Home to Willowdale State Forest and Sandy Point State Reservation, Ipswich includes the southern part of Plum Island. The Massachusetts Bay Colony (1630–1691), more formally the Colony of Massachusetts Bay, was an English settlement on the east coast of North America around the Massachusetts Bay, the northernmost of the several colonies later reorganized as the ''Province of Massachusetts Bay''. East Norwalk Historical Cemetery
__NOTOC__ Established in , the East Norwalk Historical Cemetery is Norwalk's oldest cemetery, and many of the area's first settlers are buried there. The cemetery is owned and maintained by the Third Taxing District, formally known as the East Norwalk Fire District of the Town of Norwalk, and before that it was known as the Down Town School District. Westport, Connecticut
Westport is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, along the Long Island Sound within Connecticut's Gold Coast. It is northeast of New York City. The town had a population of 27,141 according to the 2020 U.S. Census. History The earliest known inhabitants of the Westport area as identified through archaeological finds date back 7,500 years. Freeman (Colonial)
During the American colonial period, a freeman was a person who was not a slave. The term originated in 12th-century Europe. In the Massachusetts Bay Colony, a man had to be a member of the Church to be a freeman; in neighboring Plymouth Colony a man did not need to be a member of the Church, but he had to be elected to this privilege by the General Court. The history of Norwalk, Connecticut ranges from pre-contact cultures and Native Americans to the 21st century. Population Pre-Contact During an era when Native Americans had discovered the New World, Native Americans had unquestionably inhabited the area later recorded in history as Norwalk, Connecticut. Even before then many, but not all, such cultures of indigenous people came, dwelled, hunted wild animals for food, and left the area sporadically through time.
