Rising Stars (film)
''Rising Stars'' is a 2010 American teen musical drama film. The film was directed by Dan Millican. ''Rising Stars'' stars Kyle Riabko, Lauren Ashley Carter, Leon Thomas III, Fisher Stevens, Barry Corbin, and Rebecca St. James and follows three teen musical groups competing in a music video competition. The film is distributed by Screen Media Films and was released to three theaters on October 22, 2010. Plot A family musical with heart, ''Rising Stars'' explores the sacrifices that come with fame in reality television-obsessed culture. Challenged with creating songs and music videos, three musical acts find more than their futures on the line when the competition gets fierce and their lives are caught on tape broadcast to the nation. Kyle Riabko (born 29 September 1987) is a Canadian musician, composer and actor from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Before starring on Broadway in both '' Spring Awakening'' and ''Hair'', Kyle released a full-length album of original music on Columbia Records, and spent his teen years touring as an opening act for a wide range of artists, including: BB King, James Brown, John Mayer, Keb Mo, Buddy Guy, Jason Mraz, and others. Leon G. Thomas III (born ) is an American actor, record producer, songwriter and singer. After early roles in Broadway and providing the singing voice of Tyrone on the Nick Jr. animated series ''The Backyardigans'' (2006–2008), he played André Harris on the Nickelodeon series ''Victorious'' (2010–2013), for which he received a NAACP Image Award nomination.
