Rising Above (2008)
Rising Above (2008) was the second Rising Above professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by Ring of Honor. It took place on November 22, 2008 from the Frontier Fieldhouse in Chicago Ridge, Illinois. It aired on January 16, 2009. Storylines Rising Above 2008 featured professional wrestling matches that involved different wrestlers working for the Ring of Honor promotion. It also involved a match for the Shimmer Championship, the top title in Ring of Honor's then sister promotion Shimmer Women Athletes. The major feuds leading into the event were those between Austin Aries and Jimmy Jacobs and Nigel McGuinness and Bryan Danielson. Austin Aries and Jimmy Jacobs began feuding when Aries took Jacobs' kayfabe girlfriend Lacey away from him. The feud escalated to the point in which it was decided the pair would face each other in an "I Quit" Match. Bryan Danielson
Bryan Lloyd Danielson (born May 22, 1981) is an American professional wrestler. He is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where he is a member of the Blackpool Combat Club. He is also known for his time in WWE, where he worked from 2009 to 2021 under the ring name Daniel Bryan. Danielson began his professional wrestling career in 1999 on the independent circuit, and signed an 18-month contract with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in 2000; he later went on to make uncontracted appearances in WWE until 2003. In professional wrestling, kayfabe, as a noun, is the portrayal of staged events within the industry as "real" or "true", specifically the portrayal of competition, rivalries, and relationships between participants as being genuine and not staged. The term ''kayfabe'' has evolved to also become a code word of sorts for maintaining this "reality" within the direct or indirect presence of the general public. Kayfabe, in the United States, is often seen as the suspension of disbelief that is used to create the non-wrestling aspects of promotions, such as feuds, angles, and gimmicks in a manner similar to other forms of fictional entertainment. Rhett Titus
Everett Lawrence Titus (born September 15, 1987) is an American professional wrestler working for Ring of Honor (ROH). where he is a former ROH World Television Champion, an overall two-time ROH Tag Team Champion individually, as well as winning the now-defunct Top of the Class Trophy once. Raised in Lacey Township, New Jersey, Titus played prep football at Lacey Township High School, graduating in 2005. Hunter Johnston (born December 19, 1980) is an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name Delirious, currently signed to Impact Wrestling. He is known for his outrageous antics, such as running around aimlessly and screaming wildly when the opening ring bell sounds, and speaking in a rambling and mostly incoherent fashion. Delirious has competed internationally in Japan, Mexico, Austria, Germany and the United Kingdom. Alexander K. Whybrow (February 18, 1981April 11, 2011) was an American professional wrestler and manager, better known by his ring name Larry Sweeney. He performed primarily on the American independent circuit, but also competed in Canada, Mexico, Japan and Europe. Sara Ann Amato (born November 13, 1980) is an American professional wrestling trainer and retired professional wrestler, best known by her ring name Sara Del Rey. She was a mainstay for Chikara and Shimmer, but also appeared for many other independent promotions in the US, including Ring of Honor (ROH), IWA Mid-South and All Pro Wrestling, as well as Mexico's Lucha Libre Femenil. Rachel Frobel (née Collins) is an American professional wrestler who is better known by her ring name MsChif. She has been wrestling since 2001 and in that time has worked for several independent promotions across the United States, with guest matches in England and Japan. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were a Canadian professional wrestling tag team.
