Riolos
Riolos ( el, Ρίολος), is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Larissos, Achaea, Greece. It is located on the northwestern edge of the Movri hills, 4 km north of Mataragka, 3 km southwest of Krinos, 6 km southeast of Lappas and 32 km southwest of Patras. In 2001 Riolos had a population of 801 for the village and 810 for the community, which includes the small village Mazaiika. The river Larissos flows southwest of the village. During the Greek War of Independence a battle took place in Riolos in which the Greeks, led by Thallis Theodoridis the Elder, were victorious. Larissos
Larissos ( el, Λαρίσσος) is a former municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality West Achaea, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 225.729 km2. Its seat of administration was in the village Lappas, part of the community Metochi. The municipal unit was named after the river Larissos, which flows through it. It is the westernmost municipal unit of Achaea, stretching along the Ionian Sea coast and the border with Elis to the southern part of the Movri hills. It is about 32 km southwest of Patras is 37and 50 km north of Pyrgos. The area is mostly flat, except the Movri hills in the southeast and the lower Mavra Vouna hills in the northwest, near Cape Araxos. Araxos Airport (GPA). Movri
Movri () is a forested mountain range in western Achaea, Greece. Its highest point is 719 m amsl. It covers part of the municipal units Movri (named after this mountain), Dymi, Larissos and Olenia, all in the municipality of West Achaea. It is located about 30 km southwest of Patras. The higher mountain range Skollis lies to its southeast. The river Larissos has its source in the Movri, and flows to the west. Mataragka, Achaea
Mataragka ( el, Ματαράγκα, also ''Mataranga'') is a Greek village in the municipal unit of Larissos, Achaea, Greece. It is located on the western edge of the Movri hills, 4 km south of Riolos, 5 km east of Neapoli and 34 km southwest of Patras. In 2011 Mataragka had a population of 117 for the village and 282 for the municipal district, which includes the village Kefalaiika. Until 1974, Mataragka was part of the Elis Prefecture. Thallis Theodoridis (elder)
Thallis Theodoridis (Greek: Θαλλής Θεοδωρίδης, died 1850) was a Greek revolutionary leader during the Greek War of Independence. He was born in Pyrgos and is the descendant of the rich Theodoridis family which descended from Divri (now Lampeia). He was the secretary and aide of the Sissinaians and fought with his own army in Attica, Ilia, and the battle of Riolos. After the revolution, he was the stockkeeper of Pyrgos, but was accused several times for embezzlement. He died in 1850. His grandson was Vasileios Theodoridis. Western Greece Region ( el, Περιφέρεια Δυτικής Ελλάδας, translit=Periféria Dhitikís Elládhas, ) is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece. Achaea () or Achaia (), sometimes transliterated from Greek as Akhaia (, ''Akhaïa'' ), is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Western Greece and is situated in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The capital is Patras which is the third largest city in Greece. Geography Achaea is bordered by Elis to the west and southwest, Arcadia to the south, and Corinthia to the east and southeast.
