Rik Launspach
Ric Launspach (born 19 July 1958, in Arnhem, Gelderland, The Netherlands) is a Dutch actor, writer and director. He is married to actress Marjolein Beumer and is the brother-in-law to Famke Janssen and Antoinette Beumer. Early life and career Launspach began his career in theatre, he was rejected four times, only the fifth time he was accepted at the theatre academy in Amsterdam. Immediately after graduation, he founded two theatre companies, ''The Case'' in 1986 and ''The Trust'' in 1988. Between those two years he was on stage almost every day. He played the lead roles in many films and TV shows and directed several pieces. In the late 1990s, he interrupted his career in the theatre, along with his wife Marjolein Beumer, to devote his time entirely to writing. In 2006 they made their first short film together, a TV series and a feature film. Arnhem ( or ; german: Arnheim; South Guelderish: ''Èrnem'') is a city and municipality situated in the eastern part of the Netherlands about 55 km south east of Utrecht. ''Baantjer'' is a Dutch television programme which was broadcast by RTL 4 from 6 October 1995 until 1 December 2006 for a total of 123 episodes in 12 seasons. It stars Piet Römer as Jurriaan 'Jurre' de Cock, a police detective, and Victor Reinier as Dick Vledder, his helper. The series is based on the novels of writer A. C. Baantjer. In 1999, RTL 4 broadcast the television film '' Baantjer, de film: De Cock en de wraak zonder einde'' because of the tenth anniversary of the network. ''Oeroeg'' (translated into English as "The Black Lake") is the first novel by Hella Haasse. First published anonymously in 1948, it has become one of the best-known Dutch novels and a staple of literary education for many Dutch schoolchildren. The novel, a ''Bildungsroman'', is set in the former Dutch East Indies : the anonymous narrator grows up on a plantation in the Dutch colony of West Java, his childhood friend is a native boy of the same age. ''Zeg 'ns Aaa'' (''Say Aah'') was one of the longest running and most popular Dutch sitcoms, situated in the medical practice of a general practitioner and revolving around herself, her family, and her housekeeper. The title refers to the imperative phrase ''Say Aah'', often said by doctors when they want to inspect the mouth cavity of a patient. The series ran for 212 episodes from 1981 until 1993 and was broadcast by the VARA. It was also shown on Belgian television and with English subtitles on Super Channel and on SBS-TV in Australia. ''The Storm'' (Dutch: ''De Storm'') is a 2009 Dutch disaster film by Ben Sombogaart. Plot A terrible storm causes hundreds of dikes to break in Zeeland, resulting in the North Sea flood of 1953. Julia, a single mother living with her parents, is caught in the middle of the catastrophic flood. She is rescued from drowning and taken to safety by her neighbour Aldo, who is a member of the armed forces. However, her baby is left in a wooden box in the attic of Julia's parental home. Together Julia and Aldo return to the disaster area to look for the baby. When they finally find the box, it is empty, and they conclude that someone must have taken the child. The child ended up with a woman who recently lost her own baby in a car accident. Julia met her but because the woman did not want to lose the baby, she hid him from Julia. North Sea Flood Of 1953
The 1953 North Sea flood was a major flood caused by a heavy storm surge that struck the Netherlands, north-west Belgium, England and Scotland. Most sea defences facing the surge were overwhelmed, causing extensive flooding. The storm and flooding occurred at the end of Saturday, 31 January 1953 and morning of the next day. A combination of a high spring tide and a severe European windstorm over the North Sea caused a storm tide. The combination of wind, high tide, and low pressure caused the sea to flood land up to above mean sea level. Flooding summary In the Netherlands 20% of the land was below mean sea level (subsequently with the expansion of Flevoland this proportion has increased); the next-highest 30% sat at less than above sea level.
