Rijpwetering
Rijpwetering is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Kaag en Braassem, and lies about east of Leiden. History The village was first mentioned in 1615 as "Rijp weteryng", and means "bank of a waterway". Rijpwetering developed in the Middle Ages as a peat excavation settlement. The Catholic O.L. Vrouwe Geboorte Church is a three aisled basilica-like church with built-in tower which was constructed between 1858 and 1860 in Gothic Revival style. It was restored between 1997 and 2000. The inn De Vergulden Vos dates from 1618 and has served as inn, weigh house and court house. The polder mills Lijkermolen No.1 and No.2 were built in 1780 are the only twelve sided windmills of the Netherlands. Both wind mills are frequently in service. Kaag en Braassem () is a municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. It was formed on 1 January 2009, through the merger of Alkemade and Jacobswoude. Joop Zoetemelk
Hendrik Gerardus Joseph "Joop" Zoetemelk (; born 3 December 1946) is a Dutch former professional racing cyclist. He started and finished the Tour de France 16 times, which were both records when he retired. He also holds the distance record in Tour de France history with 62,885 km ridden. He won the 1979 Vuelta a España and the 1980 Tour de France. He finished the Tour in 8th, 5th, 4th (three times) and 2nd (six times) for a total of eleven top 5 finishes which is also a record. He was the first rider to wear the Tour de France's Polka Dot Jersey as the King of the Mountains and even though he never won this classification in the Tour de France, he did win it in the 1971 Vuelta a España and was considered one of the best climbers of his generation. Leiden (; in English and archaic Dutch also Leyden) is a city and municipality in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. Peat (), also known as turf (), is an accumulation of partially decayed vegetation or organic matter. It is unique to natural areas called peatlands, bogs, mires, moors, or muskegs. Gothic Revival (also referred to as Victorian Gothic, neo-Gothic, or Gothick) is an architectural movement that began in the late 1740s in England.
