Rifflsee
Rifflsee is a lake of Tyrol, Austria. It is the largest lake in the Ötztal Alps. The mountain lake is located in the Kaunergrat west of the Pitztal and is a typical moraine reservoir. The lake fills an extensive valley, the glacier-turbid water looks greenish. It is framed in the north and west by rugged peaks of the Kaunergrat, particularly striking are Seekogel and Rostizkogel. In sunny and warm weather, a considerable amount of melt water is supplied by the Seekarles, Loch, and Rifflferner. An alpine club hut called the Rifflseehütte is located nearby. Pitztal
The Pitztal is an alpine valley located in Tyrol, Austria. The Pitztal is a southern side valley of the Upper Inntal, and runs between the valleys Ötztal (to the east) and Kaunertal (to the west). The Pitze river runs the length of the valley and flows into the Rifflsee lake (2232 m) west of the upper coarse; its average rate of flow is 2.7 m3/s. The uppermost section of the river produces the Gries waterfall. The primary economic activity of the valley is agriculture and tourism. One of the main attractions of the valley is the Pitztal underground funicular, which takes passengers from Mittelberg (1736 m) to Mittelbergferner mountain (3570 m). A moraine-dammed lake occurs when the terminal moraine has prevented some meltwater from leaving the valley. Its most common shape is that of a long ribbon (ribbon lake). Ötztal Alps
The Ötztal Alps ( it, Alpi Venoste, german: Ötztaler Alpen) are a mountain range in the Central Eastern Alps, in the State of Tyrol in western Austria and the Province of South Tyrol in northern Italy. Geography The Ötztal Alps are arrayed at the head of the Ötztal valley, a side valley of the Inn river southwest of Innsbruck, Austria. Moraine
A moraine is any accumulation of unconsolidated debris (regolith and rock), sometimes referred to as glacial till, that occurs in both currently and formerly glaciated regions, and that has been previously carried along by a glacier or ice sheet. It may consist of partly rounded particles ranging in size from boulders (in which case it is often referred to as boulder clay) down to gravel and sand, in a groundmass of finely-divided clayey material sometimes called glacial flour. Lateral moraines are those formed at the side of the ice flow, and terminal moraines were formed at the foot, marking the maximum advance of the glacier. Alpine Club Hut
Alpine club huts (german: Alpenvereinshütten) or simply club huts (''Clubhütten'') form the majority of the over 1,300 mountain huts in the Alps and are maintained by branches, or sections, of the various Alpine clubs. Although the usual English translation of ''Hütte'' is "hut", most of them are substantial buildings designed to accommodate and feed significant numbers of hikers and climbers and to withstand harsh high alpine conditions for decades. Purpose and facilities They provide hikers and climbers with accommodation and shelter, mainly in the Alpine region. Mittagskogel
The Mittagskogel (German) or Kepa (Slovenian) has an elevation of aA, Federal Agency of Metrology and Surveying, Austria, Map 1:50000 and is thus the third highest mountain in the Karawanks range, after Hochstuhl/Stol and the Vertratscha/ Vrtača. It is located on the border between Slovenia and Austria. Geography The massif consisting of main dolomite and Dachstein limestone beds rises between the Slovene Sava valley in the south and the Austrian Drau basin in the north.
