Richmond Hill is an unincorporated community in northern Yadkin County, North Carolina, United States, along the Yadkin River. The community is on the Yadkin County side of the river between the Surry County communities of Rockford and Siloam. It is located in the Boonville ZIP code area (27011). Overview The community of Richmond Hill is named for the residence of the same name of Richmond Mumford Pearson, former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. Pearson established the Richmond Hill Law School in his home at Richmond Hill in 1848, which was conveniently near Rockford, then the county seat of a then combined Surry and Yadkin counties. The brick home of Pearson, built in 1861, was fully restored in the 1970s and is the centerpiece of the Richmond Hill Law School & Nature Park. Surry County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 71,359. Its county seat is Dobson, and its largest city is Mount Airy. Richmond Hill Law School is a historic home and law school building located near Richmond Hill, Yadkin County, North Carolina. It was built in 1848, and is a two-story, three bay, "T"-plan, brick building. It has a low hipped roof and deep overhang. It was built as the home and law school of jurist Richmond Mumford Pearson. Richmond Mumford Pearson
Richmond Mumford Pearson (1805–1878) was an American jurist who served as chief justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court from 1858 to 1878. He was the father of Congressman Richmond Pearson and the father-in-law of North Carolina Governor Daniel Gould Fowle. Pearson lived much of his life in what is now Yadkin County, North Carolina and was a lawyer, state legislator, and Superior Court judge before being named by the state legislature as a Supreme Court associate judge in 1848. He was a prominent pro-Union Whig Party politician before the American Civil War and eventually became a Republican after the war. As Chief Justice, the "domineering" Pearson helped the Court survive the Civil War, frequently ruling against the Confederacy on issues of exemption from conscription and habeas corpus, and saw it through the 1868 constitutional change that made the Court justices elected by popular vote, rather than by the General Assembly (legislature). Boonville is a town in Yadkin County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,222 at the 2010 census. History Boonville was named for Daniel Boone. A post office has been in operation in Boonville since 1857. The town was incorporated by the NC Legislature on February 19, 1895. Boonville Community Volunteer Fire Department The Boonville Community Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1941 with Harvey Smith serving as its first Chief. Geography Rockford is situated along the Yadkin River in the Rockford Township of southern Surry County. Yadkin River
The Yadkin River is one of the longest rivers in North Carolina, flowing . It rises in the northwestern portion of the state near the Blue Ridge Parkway's Thunder Hill Overlook. Several parts of the river are impounded by dams for water, power, and flood control. The river becomes the Pee Dee River at the confluence of the Uwharrie River south of the community of Badin and east of the town of Albemarle.
