Richmond Field
Richmond Field is a privately owned, public use airport. It is located two nautical miles (4  km) southeast of the central business district of Gregory, a city in Livingston County, Michigan, United States. The airport is home to multiple gliding clubs. Facilities and aircraft Richmond Field covers an area of 145 acres (59 ha) at an elevation of 921 feet (281 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 18/36 with a turf surface measuring 2,471 by 100 feet (753 x 30 m). There is no fixed-base operator at the airport. In 1994, a local gliding club purchased additional land at the airport in order to make facility upgrades themselves. For the 12-month period ending December 31, 2021, the airport had 6,552 general aviation aircraft operations, an average of 18 per day. Gregory is an unincorporated community in Livingston County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The community is located within Unadilla Township. As an unincorporated community, Gregory has no legally defined boundaries or population statistics of its own but does have its own post office with the 48137 ZIP Code. Geography Gregory is located within central Unadilla Township in southwest Livingston County. The community is located about southwest of the Brighton–Howell area. It is one of the westernmost communities included in the Detroit–Warren–Dearborn Metropolitan Statistical Area (Metro Detroit). Gregory sits at an elevation of above sea level. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is a constitutional government principal department of the US state of Michigan. The LET L-23 Super Blaník is a two-seat, all-metal structure Glider (aircraft), glider with fabric covered control surfaces. The aircraft is primarily used for flight training; its single-seat sister model is the Let L-33 Solo. Design and development The Super Blaník is an improved version of the original LET L-13 Blanik. In flight dynamics a spin is a special category of stall resulting in autorotation (uncommanded roll) about the aircraft's longitudinal axis and a shallow, rotating, downward path approximately centred on a vertical axis. Spins can be entered intentionally or unintentionally, from any flight attitude if the aircraft has sufficient yaw while at the stall point. In a normal spin, the wing on the inside of the turn stalls while the outside wing remains flying. It is possible for both wings to stall, but the angle of attack of each wing, and consequently its lift and drag, are different. An airfield traffic pattern is a standard path followed by aircraft when taking off or landing while maintaining visual contact with the airfield. At an airport, the pattern (or circuit) is a standard path for coordinating air traffic. It differs from "straight-in approaches" and "direct climb-outs" in that aircraft using a traffic pattern remain close to the airport. The Applebay Zuni and Zuni II are single-seat, water-ballasted gliders designed to compete in the FAI 15m class. In February 2015 the New Mexico State Legislature named the Zuni the ''Official State Glider''. Design and development The Soaring Society of America announced a sailplane design competition, in 1970, with the intention of giving American glider pilots the opportunity to fly competitive American designed and built aircraft in International competitions.
