Gort
Gort ( or ) is a town of around 3,000 inhabitants in County Galway in the west of Ireland. Located near the border with County Clare, the town lies between the Burren and the Slieve Aughty and is served by the R458 and R460 regional roads, which connect to the M18 motorway. Etymology Gort is short for the complete Irish name, ''Gort Inse Guaire'' (''gort:'' a meadow, field, ''inse:'' an island, and ''Guaire:'' a proper name) and translates to "field of Guaire's island". Thomas Breen (hurler)
Thomas Breen (born 24 July 1990) is an Irish hurler who plays for Kilkenny IHC club St Martin's. He previously lined out at inter-county level with the Kilkenny senior hurling team. Career Breen played with the Castlecomer Community School hurling team that won the Leinster Colleges Championship in 2007. He simultaneously lined out with the St Martin's club at juvenile and underage levels before eventually progressing onto the club's senior team. Breen first appeared on the inter-county scene as captain of the Kilkenny minor hurling team that beat Galway in the 2008 All-Ireland minor final. After an unsuccessful tenure with the under-21 team, he was drafted onto the Kilkenny senior hurling team in 2013. Breen shared in the team's National Hurling League success in his debut season before claiming Walsh Cup honours in 2014. The 2009 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 78th staging of the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. The championship began on 12 April 2009 and ended on 6 September 2009. Kilkenny entered the championship as the defending champions. On 6 September 2009, Galway won the championship after a 2-15 to 2-11 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was their 8th championship title overall and their first title since 2005. Tipperary's John O'Dwyer was the championship's top scorer with 4-37. In team sport, captain is a title given to a member of the team. The title is frequently honorary, but in some cases the captain may have significant responsibility for strategy and teamwork while the game is in progress on the field. In either case, it is a position that indicates honor and respect from one's teammates – recognition as a leader by one's peers. Cillian Buckley
Cillian Buckley (born 14 July 1992) is an Irish hurler who plays for Kilkenny Senior Championship club Dicksboro and at inter-county level with the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a left wing-back. Playing career St Kieran's College During his schooling at St Kieran's College in Kilkenny, Buckley established himself as a key member of the senior hurling team. In 2010 he won his first Leinster medal following a 3-13 to 1-11 defeat of Dublin Colleges. On 3 April 2010 St Kieran's faced Ardscoil Rís in the All-Ireland decider. Buckley's side trailed by five points as the game entered the final quarter, however, St. Kieran's staged a magnificent comeback, hitting 1-5 without reply including a Michael Brennan goal in the 51st minute, to claim a 2-11 to 2-8 victory. Daithí Burke
Daithí Burke (born 16 November 1992) is an Irish hurler and Gaelic footballer who plays at senior level for the Galway county hurling team and for his clubs Turloughmore and Corofin. Burke made his debut for Galway against Laois, and was part of the team that reached the 2015 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final after defeating Tipperary in the semi-final. On 3 September 2017, Burke started at full-back for Galway as they won their first All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in 29 years against Waterford. He has also played for NUI Galway. David Burke (born 7 January 1990) is an Irish hurler who plays as a midfielder or half forward for the Galway senior team. Burke joined the team in 2010 and immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen. He has won one Leinster winners' medal and two National Hurling League winners' medal. At club level Burke plays with St Thomas's. Burke is a woodwork teacher by profession.
