Richard Ryan (diplomat)
Richard Ryan (born 1946) is an Irish poet and former diplomat. Born in 1946 and educated in Dublin, he was an English professor and visiting poet at the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota, USA from 1970 to 1971, and published two volumes of poetry in the early 1970s. In 1974 he joined the Irish diplomatic service. In the 1980s he served as counsellor in the Irish Embassy in London where, according to Garret FitzGerald Garret Desmond FitzGerald (9 February 192619 May 2011) was an Irish Fine Gael politician, economist and barrister who served twice as Taoiseach, serving from 1981 to 1982 and 1982 to 1987. He served as Leader of Fine Gael from 1977 to 1987, and ..., he did very useful work in the run up to the Anglo-Irish Agreement. One of his talents was that he was an excellent shot.
