Richard Maru
Richard Maru, OBE is a Papua New Guinea politician. He is a Member of the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea representing Yangoru Saussia Open, and is the leader of People’s First Party. He was appointed as Minister for International Trade and Investment in 2022. In 2011, he was appointed an OBE for services to development banking and rural development, and an active member of the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific. Early life Maru graduated from the Papua New Guinea University of Technology in 1983 with a Bachelor of Technology in Business Studies Degree. He completed an MBA from the University of Bath in 1999. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. 2012 Papua New Guinean General Election
General elections were held in Papua New Guinea from 23 June until around 13 July 2012, after being postponed by a further week to allow for security personnel to criss-cross the country, particularly the highland provinces. The elections followed controversy over incomplete electoral rolls and a constitutional crisis caused by a dispute over the office of prime minister between Michael Somare and Peter O'Neill. The People's First Party (also known as the People First Party, Pipol First Party or Pipol's First Party) is a political party in Papua New Guinea. It was established in August 2001 by Morobe Province governor Luther Wenge. Wenge was re-elected at the 2002 election and Tom Amukele elected for Okapa Open. The National Parliament of Papua New Guinea is the unicameral national legislature in Papua New Guinea. It was created in 1964 as the House of Assembly of Papua and New Guinea but gained its current name after the nation was granted independence in 1975. The 111 members of parliament serve five-year terms, 89 of whom are chosen from single-member "open" electorates, which are sometimes referred to as "seats" but are officially known as constituencies. The remaining 22 are chosen from single-member provincial electorates: the 20 provinces, the autonomous province of Bougainville (North Solomons), and the National Capital District.
