Richard Hamilton, 4th Viscount Boyne
Richard Hamilton, 4th Viscount Boyne (24 March 1724 – 30 July 1789) was an Irish peer and politician. After serving in the Royal Navy and Irish House of Commons, he inherited the viscountcy from his Frederick Hamilton, 3rd Viscount Boyne in 1772 and died in 1789. Early life Hamilton was born on 24 March 1724. He was the younger son of Gustavus Hamilton (second of Gustavus Hamilton, 1st Viscount Boyne), and his wife the Dorothea Bellew (a daughter of Richard Bellew, 3rd Baron Bellew of Duleek). His uncles were Frederick Hamilton and Henry Hamilton. Career Hamilton joined the Royal Navy, and was promoted to lieutenant on 2 June 1748. Two days after this he was appointed to the 80-gun ship of the line HMS ''Russell'' as her third lieutenant, in the Mediterranean Sea. A ship of the line was a type of naval warship constructed during the Age of Sail from the 17th century to the mid-19th century. The ship of the line was designed for the naval tactic known as the line of battle, which depended on the two columns of opposing warships maneuvering to volley fire with the cannons along their broadsides. In conflicts where opposing ships were both able to fire from their broadsides, the opponent with more cannons firingand therefore more firepowertypically had an advantage. Baron Athlumney
Baron Athlumney, of Somerville and Dollarstown in the County of Meath, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1863 for the Liberal politician Sir William Meredyth Somerville, 5th Baronet, who had previously served as Chief Secretary for Ireland. In 1866 he was also created Baron Meredyth, of Dollardstown in the County of Meath, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. He was succeeded by his eldest and only surviving son from his second marriage, the second Baron. He was childless and on his death in 1929 the baronies became extinct while the baronetcy became dormant. The Baronetcy, of Somerville in the County of Meath, was created in the Baronetage of Ireland in 1748 for James Somerville, who had earlier served as Lord Mayor of Dublin. His great-grandson, the fourth Baronet (the title having descended from father to son), represented County Meath in both the Irish and British Parliaments. Charles Moore, 1st Earl of Charleville PC (24 January 1712 – 17 February 1764), known as The Lord Moore between 1725 and 1758, was an Irish peer and freemason. Moore was the son of John Moore, 1st Baron Moore, and Mary Lum, daughter of Elnathan Lum. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, and succeeded his father in the barony in 1725. He was sworn of the Irish Privy Council in 1746 and created Earl of Charleville, in the King's County, in the Irish peerage in 1758. From 1761 to 1764 he was Governor and Custos Rotulorum of King's County. Lord Charleville married Hester Coghill, daughter of James Coghill, in 1737. The marriage was childless. He died in February 1764, aged 51, when the barony and earldom became extinct. John Moore, 1st Baron Moore
John Moore, 1st Baron Moore PC (c. 1676 – 8 September 1725), was an Irish politician. Moore was the son of Thomas Moore and Ellen Colley, daughter of Dudley Cowley, Member of Parliament for Philipstown. He was returned to the Irish Parliament for Philipstown in 1703, a seat he held until 1713, and then represented King's County between 1713 and 1715. He was sworn of the Irish Privy Council in August 1715 and raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Moore, of Tullamore in the King's County, in October of the same year. Lord Moore married firstly Mary Lum, daughter of Elnathan Lum, in 1697. After his first wife's death he married secondly Elizabeth Sankey, daughter of John Sankey. HMS Magnanime (1748)
''Le Magnanime'' was originally a 74-gun ship of the line of the French Navy launched in 1744 at Rochefort. Captured on 12 January 1748, she was taken into Royal Navy service as the third rate HMS ''Magnanime''. She played a major part in the 1757 Rochefort expedition, helping to silence the batteries on the Isle of Aix, and served at the Battle of Quiberon Bay in 1759 under Lord Howe, where she forced the surrender of the French 74-gun . Following a survey in 1770, she was deemed unseaworthy and was broken up in 1775. High Sheriff Of Meath
The High Sheriff of Meath was the British Crown's judicial representative in County Meath, Ireland, from the conquest until 1922, when the office was abolished in the new Free State and replaced by the office of Meath County Sheriff. The sheriff had judicial, electoral, ceremonial and administrative functions and executed high court writs. In 1908, an Order in Council made the Lord-Lieutenant the Sovereign's prime representative in a county and reduced the High Sheriff's precedence. However, the sheriff retained his responsibilities for the preservation of law and order in the county. The usual procedure for appointing the sheriff from 1660 onwards was that three persons were nominated at the beginning of each year from the county and the Lord Lieutenant then appointed his choice as High Sheriff for the remainder of the year.
