''Return to Olympus'' is the debut studio album by the American rock band Malfunkshun and the only album to feature both original vocalist Andrew Wood (later of Mother Love Bone) and Kevin Wood (later of Devilhead). The album was released after the band had disbanded and following the death of Andrew Wood from a drug overdose in 1990. Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam compiled the songs and released the album on his and Malfunkshun drummer Regan Hagar's label, Loosegroove Records. The band also covered Ted Nugent's song "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang". Stone Gossard
Stone Carpenter Gossard (born July 20, 1966) is an American musician who serves as a guitarist and songwriter for the rock band Pearl Jam. Along with Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, and Eddie Vedder, he is one of the founding members of the band. Gossard is also known for his work prior to Pearl Jam with the Seattle-based grunge bands Green River and Mother Love Bone. Gossard was also a member of the bands Temple of the Dog and Brad. In addition to his performing career, he has been active in the music industry as a producer and the owner of a record label and recording studio. He released his first solo album '' Bayleaf'' in 2001; his second, ''Moonlander'', followed in 2013. Gossard was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Pearl Jam in 2017. Malfunkshun is an alternative rock band formed in 1980 by Andrew Wood and his brother Kevin Wood. The band formed around the same time as other Washington state bands such as The U-Men (1980), Melvins (1983), Green River (1984), Soundgarden (1984) and Skin Yard (1985). History Bainbridge Island, Washington brothers Andrew and Kevin Wood, along with Dave Hunt and Dave Rees formed Malfunkshun, originally as a four-piece. David Hunt (1964-2009) and Dave Rees played with Malfunkshun for only one show, the former on drums and the latter on bass. After Rees and Hunt left, Andy took over bass and drummer Regan Hagar was recruited from Maggot Brains, establishing the band's definitive power trio lineup. Wang Dang Sweet Poontang
"Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" is a hard rock song written and performed by Ted Nugent. It was first released in 1977 on the Epic album ''Cat Scratch Fever'' and as the B-side of the Epic single, Cat Scratch Fever. The song was produced by Lew Futterman and Cliff Davies. An extended live version of the song was released in 1978 on the ''Double Live Gonzo!'' album. The song has also been covered by various artists, including a 2020 cover by heavy metal supergroup BPMD. The song's title is a rhyming and unsubtle reference to the male and female genitalia. The lyrics pay tribute to "a teenage queen" named Nadine who is "lookin' so clean, especially down in between." As Nugent became active in conservative politics in his later years, the song's sexually explicit content drew attention in news and satire publications. Theodore Anthony Nugent (; born December 13, 1948) is an American rock musician and activist. He initially gained fame as the lead guitarist and occasional lead vocalist of The Amboy Dukes, a band formed in 1963 that played psychedelic rock and hard rock. After dissolving the band, he embarked on a successful solo career. His first three solo albums, ''Ted Nugent'' (1975), ''Free-for-All'' (1976) and ''Cat Scratch Fever'' (1977), were certified multi-platinum in the United States. Regan Hagar
Regan Hagar is an American musician. Primarily a drummer, he also plays keyboard and guitar on occasion. He was the drummer in Malfunkshun from 1980 to 1988, featuring Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone on vocals and Kevin Wood on guitar. He had previously been in the band Maggot Brains, but joined Malfunkshun when their drummer, David Hunt, quit the band after the first show. Hagar has also performed in Satchel with Shawn Smith, and in Brad with Smith and Stone Gossard (from Pearl Jam and formerly Mother Love Bone). Devilhead
Devilhead were an American alternative rock group formed by brothers Kevin Wood (guitar) and Brian Wood (vocals), who were both elder brothers of the late Andrew Wood, the singer of Malfunkshun (which also featured Kevin) and Mother Love Bone, in 1994 in Seattle, Washington following the breakup of their previous group The Fire Ants. Both Kevin and Brian were the only permanent members of the group and they released two albums, '' Your Ice Cream's Dirty'' in 1994 on Loosegroove Records, with album art by Regan Hagar; and ''Pest Control'' in 1996, which featured a number of contributors including bassist John Waterman and guitarist John McBain, both of the band Hater. Kevin Wood (guitarist)
Kevin Wood (born September 16, 1961) is an American musician known for playing lead guitar in various Seattle-based bands he founded during the Grunge era in the Pacific Northwest. Early life Wood had younger brothers Brian and Andrew Wood. The Wood family lived the longest on Bainbridge Island, Washington, which is a short ferry ride from Seattle. Mother Love Bone
Mother Love Bone was an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington in 1988. The band was active from 1988 to 1990. Frontman Andrew Wood's personality and lyrics helped to catapult the group to the top of the burgeoning late 1980s/early 1990s Seattle music scene.
