Retrogaming
Retrogaming, also known as classic gaming and old school gaming, is the current playing and collection of obsolete computer game, personal computers, video game console, consoles, and video games. Usually, retrogaming is based upon systems that are outmoded or discontinued, although ported retrogaming allows games to be played on modern hardware via Porting, ports or compilations. It is typically for nostalgia, preservation, or authenticity. A new game could be retro styled, such as an Role-playing video game, RPG with turn-based combat and pixel art in isometric video game graphics, isometric camera perspective. Retrogaming has existed since the early years of the video game industry, and was popularized with the Internet and Emulation (computing), emulation technology. Cave Story
''Cave Story'', originally released as is a 2004 Metroidvania platform-adventure game for Microsoft Windows. It was developed over five years by Japanese independent developer Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya in his free time. ''Cave Story'' features 2D platform mechanics and is reminiscent of the games Amaya played in his youth, such as ''Metroid'' and ''Castlevania''. After its initial self-published release, the game slowly gained popularity on the internet. Nostalgia is a sentimentality for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations. The word ''nostalgia'' is a learned formation of a Greek compound, consisting of (''nóstos''), meaning "homecoming", a Homeric word, and (''álgos''), meaning "sorrow" or "despair", and was coined by a 17th-century medical student to describe the anxieties displayed by Swiss mercenaries fighting away from home. La Mulana
''La-Mulana'' (stylized as ''La•Mʊlana'') is a platform-adventure video game, designed to imitate the look and feel of MSX games. Released on June 27, 2006, in Japan for Microsoft Windows, the game was only available in Japanese, but an English translation patch has been produced by Ian Kelley of AGTP. The game was later remade from the ground up in a 16-bit style for the Wii, and later PC, Mac, Linux and PlayStation Vita. Gameplay The protagonist of the game is Lemeza, a whip wielding adventurer exploring the tomb within La-Mulana. Although there is only one ending in the game there are many ways to get there, in that completing objectives in the game (gaining power ups and reaching new areas) is not linear, nor is there an obvious recommended path to take. Retro Game Challenge
''Retro Game Challenge'' is a Nintendo DS game developed by indieszero and published by Namco Bandai Games and Xseed Games in North America. It is based on the television series '' GameCenter CX'', and Shinya Arino gave much input into the game creation process. The game was released on November 15, 2007 in Japan and February 10, 2009 in North America. A sequel, '' Retro Game Challenge 2'', was released in Japan in February 26, 2009 and was never officially localized into English by Xseed, but received a fan translation. Gameplay In the game, the player controls a boy or girl who plays retro games in order to appease the Demon Arino (based on the TV show's host Shinya Arino). is a Sega Master System game created by Sega in 1987. It was later ported to the arcade, Famicom, and MSX, and was remade for the System 16 hardware on a PlayStation 2 compilation in 2008.
