Renown Regional Medical Center (formerly Washoe Medical Center) is part of Renown Health (formerly Washoe Health System), a non-profit hospital in Reno, Nevada. It is Renown Health's flagship hospital and the region's only level II trauma center. Renown Regional facilitates the area's only dedicated children's hospital, Renown Children's Hospital. Renown Health (formerly Washoe Health System) is the largest locally owned not-for-profit healthcare network in Northern Nevada. It has more than 6,500 employees system-wide and is one of Northern Nevada's largest employers. History Renown Health, formerly known as the Washoe Health System, was founded in 1862 during a smallpox outbreak. The clinic became the area's first hospital when Nevada became a state in 1864. Washoe Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washoe County, Nevada, United States. It corresponds closely to the unincorporated community of New Washoe City. The population was 3,019 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reno– Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area. The CDP takes its name from the Washoe Valley, a region between Reno and Carson City centered on Washoe Lake.
