Reno is an unincorporated community in Bond County, Illinois. Reno is located along a railroad line southeast of Sorento. History Reno was formally established in 1883 upon the construction of a nearby Jacksonville and Southwestern Railroad line and was previously known as Cottonwood Grove and Augusta. A post office in the community existed as early as 1851. Geography Renos is located at an elevation of 577 feet. The community appears on the Sorento South United States Geological Survey map. New Douglas is a village in Madison County, Illinois, United States. The population was 350 at the 2020 census. History New Douglas was laid out about 1776. The community was centered on the local coal mines and farming in the early 1900s. When need for coal dropped in the 1950s the town fell back on its farming roots, mostly of corn and soybeans. Jacksonville And Southwestern Railroad
The Jacksonville & Southwestern Railroad (J&SW) was a railroad that served Florida from 1899 to 1904. It was purchased by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1904. The Atlantic Coast Line would extend the line further west and it would become their Jacksonville—Wilcox Line. Some of the original right-of-way was converted to a recreational path in the rails to trails program in the 1990s. History Construction and Early Years The railroad was built by Wellington W. Cummer from his sawmill at Milldale, on the St. Johns River north of the then city limits of Jacksonville, Florida, to access timber lands near Newberry, Florida.
