Renford Bambrough
John Renford Bambrough (29 April 1926 – 17 January 1999) was a British philosopher. He was fellow of St John's College, Cambridge from 1950-1999, where he held the positions of Dean (1964–1979) and President (1979–1983). Life John Renford Bambrough was born in New Silksworth, Silksworth, Sunderland, England on 29 April 1926. He was born into a mining background, his father having been an electrician at Silksworth Colliery. And he himself worked, as part of his National Service (UK), national service, in a coalmine at Wearmouth Colliery from 1944 to 1945 as a Bevin Boys, Bevin Boy. He died in Cambridge on 17 January 1999. Renford Cogle
Renford "Rennie" Cogle (born 20 June 1948), is a singer and songwriter whose career spans more than three decades and about as many continents. His musical career started in 1972 when his friend, the late Delroy Wilson, Delroy "Smooth Operator" Wilson, listened to his music and recorded "You Keep On Running". This was to be the first of many number one hits written by Cogle. Subsequent songs such as "Sweet Rose"; "Ring of Gold"; "Rock It To Me"; "Babylon Policy" and "Passion of Love" became international hit singles and were performed by Tony Brevett and The Melodians. "Everybody Balling"; "Heart Breaking Love"; "Build Me Up"; "By the Rivers of Babylon"; "It's My Delight" and "Sweet Sensation", performed by Brent Dowe, are among the other hit songs he has written. Renford Reese
Renford Reese (born July 24, 1967) is a professor in the political science department at Cal Poly Pomona and the founder/director of the Prison Education Project. He is the author of ''American Bravado'' (2007), ''Prison Race'' (2006), ''Leadership in the LAPD: Walking the Tightrope'' (2005), and ''American Paradox: Young Black Men'' (2004). Early life and college career Reese was born in McDonough, Georgia ("Blacksville"). He is the son of Earnest Reese and Artelia Reese. His father was one of the first African American journalists to write for a major newspaper in the South—the ''Atlanta Journal-Constitution''. His mother was the principal at his high school—Henry County High School. In 1985, he entered Vanderbilt University and played football for four years. He played various defensive positions. ''Renford Rejects'' is a teen sitcom produced and broadcast by Nickelodeon UK between 1998 and 2001. The show briefly aired in the United States on Nickelodeon Games and Sports for Kids, Nick GaS. Reruns used to be broadcast on Nickelodeon UK at 1:50am and 2:15am until 2020. The show concerned a Five-a-side football, five-a-side school Football (soccer), football team, made up of aspiring players who had been turned down by their school's main team. They were named "Renford Rejects" when a rival player sabotaged their league entry form, but decided to stick with the name as it suited their "outcast" nature. The show used to be played at night from 1:50am to 2:40am on U.K. Nickelodeon. Des Renford
Desmond Robert Renford MBE (25 August 192730 December 1999) was an Australian long-distance swimmer who swam the English Channel 19 times from 19 attempts. This was a record for successful crossings by an Australian until it was overtaken by Chloe McCardel in 2016. From 1975 to 1979 and for a period in 1980 he held the title of King of the Channel. At the time of his death, only two other people had swum the Channel more often, Alison Streeter and Michael Read. Biography Des Renford was born on the 52nd anniversary of the very first Channel swim, achieved in 1875 by Matthew Webb. He took up marathon swimming only at the age of 39. His Channel crossings included three in 10 days in 1980. In 1977 he broke the record for swimming around Alcatraz Island by 23 minutes. He was a mentor of Susie Maroney, and led her on her first Channel crossing when she was 15. Enford
Enford is a village and civil parish in Wiltshire, England, in the northeast of Salisbury Plain. The village lies southeast of Devizes and north of Salisbury. The parish includes nine small settlements along both banks of the headwaters of the River Avon. Besides Enford, these are Compton, Coombe, East Chisenbury, Fifield, Littlecott, Longstreet, New Town and West Chisenbury. The name is derived from the Old English ''Enedford'' meaning 'duck ford'. History The parish carries much evidence of prehistoric activity, including bowl barrows. Lidbury Camp, on Littlecott Down, was occupied in the Iron Age and in the Romano-British period, and further evidence of Romano-British occupation has been found around Compton. A site on the west bank of the Avon near Compton is possibly that of a Roman villa. The Domesday Book of 1086 recorded 34 households at Enford and a smaller settlement at Compton.
