The Renault 6P, also called the Renault Bengali, was a series of air-cooled 6-cylinder inverted in-line aero engines designed and built in France from the late 1920s, which produced from to . Design and development Charles Lindbergh's Atlantic Ocean crossing in 1927 inspired Renault to enter the light aero-engine market to diversify the range of engines they offered. To complement the 4P four-cylinder engines, Renault developed the 6P series, with bore and stroke; by adding two cylinders of the same bore and stroke. Developed by Charles-Edmond Serre, the 6P evolved to give , using bore steel cylinder liners, aluminium alloy cylinder heads attached by long studs to the crankcase, Duralumin connecting rods and magnesium alloy crankcase. The Menasco Buccaneer was a series of popular six-cylinder, air-cooled, in-line, inverted, aero-engines, that were manufactured by Menasco Motors Company for light general aviation and sport aircraft during the 1930s and 1940s. The six-cylinder Menasco engines had the name Buccaneer, while the four-cylinder engines had the name Pirate. The Menasco engines came in both supercharged and normally aspirated models. The supercharged models, with the ''S'' suffix added to their designation, had superior performance at higher altitudes with a relatively small increase in dimensions and weight. Isotta Fraschini Beta
The Isotta Fraschini Beta was an air cooled aircraft engine produced by the Italian engineering company Isotta Fraschini in the 1940s. Design and development The Isotta Fraschini derived the Beta inverted 6-cylinder in-line aircraft engine from the Gamma, with which it shared its bore and stroke. The engine had a one-piece aluminium alloy crankcase with steel and aluminium cylinders, each with a single inlet and a single exhaust valve. It had a carburettor designed by Isotta Fraschini and a single speed supercharger. It was produced in small numbers and fitted to a number of Italian training aircraft, including the Nardi FN.316 used in limited quantities by the Regia Aeronautica, Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana and German Luftwaffe during World War II. The de Havilland Gipsy Queen is a British six-cylinder aero engine of capacity that was developed in 1936 by the de Havilland Engine Company. The Argus As 17 was an air cooled six-cylinder in-line aircraft engine designed by the German engineering company Argus Motoren in the 1930s. Developed from the same company's smaller As 8, the engine was produced in ratings between . An octane rating, or octane number, is a standard measure of a fuel's ability to withstand compression in an internal combustion engine without detonating. The higher the octane number, the more compression the fuel can withstand before detonating. Octane rating does not relate directly to the power output or the energy content of the fuel per unit mass or volume, but simply indicates gasoline's capability against compression. A poppet valve (also called mushroom valve) is a valve typically used to control the timing and quantity of gas or vapor flow into an engine. It consists of a hole or open-ended chamber, usually round or oval in cross-section, and a plug, usually a disk shape on the end of a shaft known as a valve stem. The working end of this plug, the valve face, is typically ground at a 45° bevel to seal against a corresponding valve seat ground into the rim of the chamber being sealed. The shaft travels through a valve guide to maintain its alignment. A pressure differential on either side of the valve can assist or impair its performance.
