Al Reimer
Elmer E. 'Al' Reimer (1927-2015) was a Mennonite writer from Steinbach, Manitoba. Reimer was an important literary critic and writer in the emergence of southern Manitoba Mennonite literature during the 1970s and 80s. Born in Landmark, Manitoba, Reimer grew up in Steinbach and received his PhD at Yale University. He taught English literature at University of Winnipeg for many years. Neil Reimer (July 3, 1921 – March 29, 2011) was an activist, trade unionist and politician in Canada. Reimer attended the University of Saskatchewan, but left in 1942 at the age of 19 to work at the Consumers Co-operative Refinery in Regina, Saskatchewan. There he joined a Congress of Industrial Organizations union organizing drive. Kleine Gemeinde
Kleine Gemeinde is a Mennonite denomination founded in 1812 by Klaas Reimer in the Russian Empire. The current group primarily consists of Plautdietsch-speaking Russian Mennonites in Belize, Mexico and Bolivia, as well as a small presence in Canada and the United States. In 2015 it had some 5,400 baptized members. Most of its Canadian congregations diverged from the others over the latter half of the 20th century and are now called the Evangelical Mennonite Conference. History The Kleine Gemeinde was founded in 1812 by a small group of Mennonites dissatisfied with the state of the existing church in the Molotschna colony settlement of then south Russia (present-day Ukraine). Klaas Reimer (1770–1837) was the founder of the Kleine Gemeinde, a Mennonite denomination that still exists in Latin America, but underwent radical changes in Canada where it is now called the Evangelical Mennonite Conference. Ethnic Mennonite remigrants from Latin America brought the original Kleine Gemeinde back to Canada and the US. Biography Reimer was born in 1770 to Heinrich Reimer and Agatha Epp (b. 1745) in the Vistula delta Mennonite settlement of Petershagen, Prussia, located about 35 km east of the city of Danzig (Gdańsk). Heinrich died while his son was still young; his mother later remarried Abraham Janzen (1747–1822), a wealthy farmer. During his childhood, Reimer received no formal education. Helmut Reimer is a German computer scientist. He was professor of microelectronics at the Technische Universität Ilmenau from 1971. From 1980 to 1990, he also led the department for microchip production of the VEB Mikroelektronik Erfurt. From 1992 to 2007, he was managing director of TeleTrusT, an association for trustworthy information and communication technologies. Georg Friedrich Reimer (17 May 1828, Leipzig – 17 September 1866, Berlin) was a German genre painter from the Düsseldorf School. Life Reimer was the only son of the bookseller Karl August Reimer (1801–1858) from his first marriage to Auguste, née Hörner (1805–1834). His grandfather and namesake was the art-loving Leipzig publisher Georg Andreas Reimer. His sister Maria Auguste (1832–1907) married the historian Theodor Mommsen in 1854. Reimer grew up in Leipzig.
