The Regional Council of Basilicata (''Consiglio Regionale della Basilicata'') is the legislative assembly of Basilicata. It was first elected in 1970, when the ordinary regions were instituted, on the basis of the Constitution of Italy The Constitution of the Italian Republic ( it, Costituzione della Repubblica Italiana) was enacted by the Constituent Assembly on 22 December 1947, with 453 votes in favour and 62 against. Following the decree-law n. 138 of 13 August 2011 the number of regional councillors was reduced to 20, with an additional seat reserved for the President of the Region. Lega Per Salvini Premier
Lega ( en, League), whose official name is Lega per Salvini Premier ( en, League for Salvini Premier; abbr. LSP or LpSP), is a right-wing populist political party in Italy, led by Matteo Salvini. The LSP is the informal successor of Lega Nord ( en, Northern League, LN) and, while sharing the latter's heartland in northern Italy, it is active all around the country. The LSP was founded in December 2017 as the sister party of the LN and as a replacement of Us with Salvini (NcS), the LN's previous affiliate in central and southern Italy. The early LSP aimed at offering LN's values and policies to the rest of the country. Potenza (, also , ; , Potentino dialect: ''Putenz'') is a ''comune'' in the Southern Italian region of Basilicata (former Lucania). A regional council (''Consiglio regionale'') in Italy is the elected legislative assembly of a region of Italy. In Emilia-Romagna and Sicily, the legislative bodies are called the Legislative Assembly of Emilia-Romagna and the Sicilian Regional Assembly respectively. Origins The '' regional idea'' was born, in Italy, during the national Risorgimento and the first decades after the Unification of Italy, but any proposal was rejected until the Second World War. After the collapse of Fascism and the end of the war a violent independence movement that led to the institution of the region and the concession of the Statute, based on the model of federal states was born in Sicily. The regions of Italy ( it, regioni d'Italia) are the first-level administrative divisions of the Italian Republic, constituting its second NUTS administrative level. The 2019 Basilicata regional election took place on 24 March 2019. The election was for all 20 members of the Regional Council of Basilicata, as well as for the President of the Region, who is also a member of the council. This election was the last one in Italy before the European election of 26 May 2019. The original election date was 26 May 2019, but a snap election was called upon the resignation of the incumbent president Marcello Pittella, a member of the Democratic Party (PD), on 24 January 2019.
